Organic potting soil has white stuff in it?

I was suggesting coarse sand for the plant pots.

Okay cool, but how can I aerate the sand of the laying bin though? The laying bin will be permanent and have a plant in it.

I wanted to match the soils to make my life easier especially seeing how they will both have plants.

You are right! I thought you were talking about planting mix for plants. Vermiculite and Eco earth would hold a tunnel and be great for a laying bin and can be used as an incubation media. Sand would work also. Sorry for the confusion. I'm at work and can't read all of the replies.

Ya my bad I did kinda change subjects there lol.

I wanted to have my laying bin media and potting media to be the same, as half the cages will be that in a bin 24/7 with pots in it. That is my concern. I guess I could use something different in 1 then the other, but I need plants to live in both.

Think of it like you are doing your parsons cage, that is what I plan to do. I should go visit that thread and get some ideas :).

My base is this, aerated with large pine bark nuggets and lava rock, then capped with organic soil for raised beds and a bit more of the base. There will be TONS of low growing plants to cover the substrate, so ingestion of small bark pieces is of no more likely than them eating a woody branch off the ficus and suffering some complication.

Nice and she can lay in that?

Yup, she can lay in that mix.
