1,001 Ways to Hang Pots

So you went to your local nursery and got a potted plant. Now what?

Buy yourself a 24” hobby board from Home Depot and some 1/8” eye hooks.

Drill a pilot hole in the center of the board. That’s just a fancy way of saying make a small hole so the eye hook screws into the board by hand.

Place the board on top of your enclosure and screw the eye hook through the screen and into the board. Oooooweee now we have a place to hang things!

OK but we don’t want an ugly coat hanger in our enclosure, so how do I hang pots without that?

Use a drill to make a hole in the lip of the pot, where it’s double walled and strongest. Now feed a long black zip tie through that hole and across/flush with the dirt to the other side. Drill a hole on the opposite side and pull the zip tie through

Cut the end off another zip tie and put it on the end of the zip tie sticking out of your pot. Push that end flush with the pot and cut off the loose end. Repeat this process one more time so you have two zip ties criss cross the pot. You’ll see why.

Using floral wire, cut a 36” piece, feed an end under both zip ties where they intersect, and pull the floral wire up into a v shape so the two ends are touching. Place those ends into a power drill and tighten the drill. Now slowly turn the drill on to braid the two floral wires together. It’s REALLY strong and looks nice.

Feed the floral wire through the eye hook while supporting the pot with your other hand so there’s no weight on the eye hook. Don’t pull the floral wire like it’s a pulley system (lol). Now pull the floral wire while lifting the pot to the desired height. Bend the wire over and see if the height is right before twisting the wire about 5 times to lock it in place. I use pliers to squeeze any sharp ends flat.

I set up all my enclosures this way. It keeps the floor bare for cleanings and drainage.

Speaking of drainage, I use a 2 1/4” hole saw in the floor of my reptibreeze and then put a simple plastic pot with gravel to make the floor concave to the middle. Black plastic bucket underneath, Coroplast on the sides and voila. The sound of buckets filling is music to my ears.

There's only one thing wrong here... Your couch is facing the wrong way.

This is an awesome idea, if I ever have to do a cage makeover this is the way I'll go. Thanks for sharing!

Edit to ask, out of curiosity... How far down from ceiling of the cage does the top notch of the door measure? I know the reptibreeze is 8", just wondering if Dragon Strand has the same measurements.

I don’t use Dragonstrand so I’m not sure, only Reptibreeze so far
