Opinion of Veiled Chameleon

Hi guys, this is my first post on here. I am a new Veiled Cham owner, but have several years of experience with many other herps but I am just curious as to a few things with my little guy "Papi". I can't tell if he is dehydrated by looking at his skin (see below pics), also he has a one or two dull white spots(not large at all) around his mouth but I'm not sure if it means he is about to shed.. All in all I am just looking for some general opinions about the little guy(visual health observations and what not). He is very lively and roams around his cage all day and basks normally.

Male Veiled Chameleon age 1/2 a year
Feeding :5 calcium dusted gut fed crickets + random number of fruit flies
Handling : Never, he does like to be fed by hand or bamboo tweezers
Supplements: zoo med calcium powder/d & cricket food
watering: Use a dripper twice a day and I mist frequently
Cage;24x36
lighting 100 watt basking light, UVB light, and red light for night time(It gets down to about 60 in my house at night so he needs the night light)
temp 80-85 degrees humidity usually around 80%
Location: Connecticut

ALSO: I'm sorry for the picture being upside down, I will have to get used to posting ;-)

Welcome to the forums and congrats on your first chameleon. I keep veileds and they are awesome chameleons with so much personality. I interact with mine daily. You can see my veileds here:

To answer a few of your questions, to tell if they are dehydrated just check their poop. There's two parts to their poop, a brown part and a white part. If the white part starts looking orange then they are dehydrated.

They need it totally dark at night.....not red light. If it drops below 65 in your house and you feel he needs a little heat then use a ceramic heat bulb like this: http://www.amazon.com/Zoo-Med-Ceram...796&sr=8-1&keywords=ceramic+heat+lamp+reptile

He needs three kinds of supplements. Calcium without d3 at most feedings, calcium with d3 twice a month and a multi vitamin twice a month. I also think he needs a large variety of well gutloaded feeders.

I'm attaching my blog below for how I recommend keeping veileds. It has worked great for me over the years.

The very best to you and Papi. Keep up update with photos as he grows.
