Chameleon Info:
Your Chameleon - The species, sex, and age of your chameleon. How long has it been in your care? Ambilobe, Male, about a year, around 2 months.
Handling - How often do you handle your chameleon? Whenever he would stick himself out and want to climb on my hand, I free-range him whenever he wants to get out of the enclosure's door. So there's no certain number, never puffed at me or became dark ever since I got him so it's all good. I just wait for him to actually want to climb into my hand, that's when I handle him, otherwise I wouldn't do anything.
Feeding - What are you feeding your cham? What amount? What is the schedule? How are you gut-loading your feeders? Since I live in Dubai, the only thing we're offered in here are Mealworms. I just offer him as much as he wants to eat but normally around 10-15 mealworms a day. Every day since he's still growing. I have a colony of my own and they're normal gut-loaded with apples mainly.
Supplements - What brand and type of calcium and vitamin products are you dusting your feeders with and what is the schedule? I'm not sure about the brands but I'm using D3 without vitamin for every feeding everyday. D3 with vitamin once every two weeks. I don't use multivitamins since I use a UVB light and I normally free range him under sunlight often.
Watering - What kind of watering technique do you use? How often and how long to you mist? Do you see your chameleon drinking? Dripped system and misting. Around 6-7 times per day, maybe 2-3 minutes each misting with complete drying in between. Yes, he drinks and eats just fine!
Fecal Description - Briefly note colors and consistency from recent droppings. Has this chameleon ever been tested for parasites? Same color, no differences at all, in fact I was suggested by PenelopeLove whom is a friend of mine in here that I should post a question about yellow goo in the droppings of my cham, they don't show often just sometimes. Never been tested.
History - Any previous information about your cham that might be useful to others when trying to help you. Not really, he's super healthy, he drinks, he eats and he free ranges and I've never seen him puff, stress or even change to dark colors at all from day 1.
Cage Info:
Cage Type - Describe your cage (Glass, Screen, Combo?) What are the dimensions? It's a 180x60x60 screen/mesh enclosure.
Lighting - What brand, model, and types of lighting are you using? What is your daily lighting schedule? Not sure of the brands but a 100w basking spot light and a 10.0 florescent UVB light, placed a bit far from his enclosure so he doesn't burn himself. 12 hour on/off timer from 11am to 11pm (yes my chameleon's spoiled and sleeps late).
Temperature - What temp range have you created (cage floor to basking spot)? Lowest overnight temp? How do you measure these temps? The same temperatures as mentioned in the caresheets, not sure in fahrenheit but around 27-31 degrees celcius in daylight at basking spots and maybe 23-25 at the bottom. I think it drops to 20 at max at nights since he's placed in a room with no a/c at all and just fresh air from the door and windows coming whenever I feel like he needs a fresh breeze in his room. By using a thermometer.
Humidity - What are your humidity levels? How are you creating and maintaining these levels? What do you use to measure humidity? He's placed in a room that's warm enough to create a lot of humidity plus Dubai's weather is really humid so that helps too, it's around 70% + at all times. Normally by misting. Hygrometer.
Plants - Are you using live plants? If so, what kind? Yes, a Schefflera plant.
Placement - Where is your cage located? Is it near any fans, air vents, or high traffic areas? At what height is the top of the cage relative to your room floor? He's placed in a room by himself with a lot of space for fresh air as mentioned before, a window for fresh air is located a bit away from him so there's no direct interaction between the fresh air and the cage. No fans, no air vents, no high traffic areas, on the contrary since chameleons are made to be left in places where there is not a lot of movement, quiet and not to be disturbed at all, I placed him in a room of his own big enough for his cage, his supplies and even room for another 15 reptiles, so the room is big enough.
Location - Where are you geographically located? Dubai, United Arab Emirates.
Current Problem - The current problem you are concerned about. Hyde has been with me for the past 2 months and everything has been perfectly going great thanks to PenelopeLove for her advice and her support. In the past two days I've been noticing this and I haven't actually monitored him for a while. But, yesterday while he was free-ranging I've seen him actually fiddling around with his tongue and making his chin bigger (you know when they puff and their chin grows bigger, he does the same except his mouth isn't open and he seems to do it every 3 minutes or something). I ignored it and said maybe because it's windy and the branches are moving fast and he thinks it's a threat to him or something. Today, when I was feeding him, he just decided to climb on my hand while I'm feeding him and I took him out to the garden to free-range and I've seen him open his mouth wide and close it for around two times in the whole hour I've made him free-range, but the chin thing is still going, I would hear him huff whenever he opens his mouth but no popping sound or any other weird behaviour, just him making his chin go bigger and the 2 times he opened his mouth wide and closed it as if he was yawning. I don't know, I might be worrying too much but other than that he's perfectly fine. He's eating all good, he's drinking good, he's free-ranging happily, his colors are perfect and everything else is just perfect except the 2 things I've mentioned. Plus, while he was shedding around 4 weeks ago, I moved him from the vivarium he was in into the new enclosure while he was shedding, and ever since he has been continuously shedding without any stop, I thought he was unsettled so he was scared but should I be worried or is it because he's growing? I'd see dead skin at the bottom but he's going on a forever shedding process for some reason. Hope I get help from you guys, thanks.
