Hey everyone. My veiled chameleon is hanging upside down from top of his enclosure :/ will it cause any problems for him? Should i hold him and put him back to his ficus tree or keep him there?
PS: Holding will cause big stress because he scares from me too much
Sometimes they like to do that.. even when they get older. Only issue is they could lose a nail or two if they do it too often and they don't grow back! I'd suggest adding more vines/sticks for him to climb on to keep him busy. If he's still a young cham losing nails shouldn't be an issue until he gets heavier. Sometimes my guys actually sleep upside down on their cage haha
They dont have heat sensors on their stomach so over a long period of time it could b troublesome. I often rattle the screen lightly from the top side or just threaten to remove from the inside was often enough to get things moving.
Just make sure your basking spot is hot enough, he may be trying to get warmer. If it is the height he likes and your basking spot is lower than preferred you can always get a dimmer and make the spot higher for him to hang out. Just make sure there is plenty distance from the top of the screen so he does not burn his casque.
