No time for Beardie forum right now

My sister's boyfriend is having me watch his 5 yr old male Beardie for a week. When I checked him, it was huge, and the cage he is in is tiny. Right then and there I said wow, I gotta move this guy in a much bigger tank.

Would it be chill if I relocated him to a plastic bin/tub? Like a cricket tub?

He said he saw him eat sands before, not sure but why keep sand in his home if it can get in his mouth? Impaction is not a cool thing for any species...

His back legs look retarded, MBD without a doubt.

His eyes are messed up, can barely locate a bug, he has to be closely hand fed.

I feel horrible, he said his dad painted his back with pink nail polish?! I told him to punch his dad in the love sack, this really makes me disgusted!!

Not only does this cute animal have horrible eye sight, messed up legs, a pink line on his back, but has no room to walk around in for over a year?! I kept my cool, he is my sister's NEW boyfriend, but I really wanted to get thru his head come to me before you ever buy anything. Meeting so many awesome people online, connecting with a lot of you on face book, I got to really know so much more about you guys and what else you guys do besides chameleon stuff.

Anyways... I'll post a few dozen pictures if I have to! At least 4 to start.

He has a coiled uvb light, I told him this is was most likely messed his eyes up, or NO? I know it does with chams...

No supplementations? The way he answered "we sometimes sprinkle calcium" made me think he made that up because he didn't want to make everything seem worse... But who knows, no good uvb will do horrible things to most herps.

What should his supplement schedule be like?

I don't use rep cal without vitamin D3 but I can buy it, I'm sure it will be around the pet co. I follow screameleon's supplement guidelines and Vince told me he doesn't use rep cal without Vitamin D3, so I don't do that with my panthers....

I use rep cal herptivite for my chams and have that stuff too if that is good for him.

Not sure if he is even a he, I am taking his word for it.

I could get him in a huge bin, he brought over some brand new rocks he got from a pet store, unopened... Should I place those in there for Spike? That's his name lol.

I have dubia, I have one little group, maybe 300 of them, that feed on cricket crack and fresh veggies, that a good gut load for this guy?

Luckily I met an awesome dude Chris, who lives very close to me. He is a Vet and also breeds Beardies, I'm going to try to text him and call him again today, once it is past 9 am lol.

Its best to keep his set up as simple as possible. since his eyes are messed uo and so is his legs he couldnt climb any ways right?
So his basking spot shouldnt be up on a high rock like normal.

An adult needs at least a 40g tank if you want to put him in a cricket bin make sure it doesnt melt because it get pretty hot for a adult beardie (95-100F) espcially his basking spot and REALLY hot if hes a juvi.(110-115F)

First feeding of the day you wanna dust with calcium w/ d3 3-5 times a week then on the weekend you want to use the multivitamin at the first feeding.
Thats what the people at the bearded dragon forum always told me.

but I only ever used the multivitamin twice a month like with chameleons cuz I feel the dragons get there vitamins just fine with the gutlaod.

For the chameleons its supposed to be calcium w/o D3 at most feedings. For dragons its calcium w/ D3 instead right? I keep reading that but I just wanna double check that it isright.

Yes, get rid of the coil UVB and go linear. 5.0 or a lot of sites will say to use a 10.0. I use a 10.0 that goes the length of his enclosure since he doesn't sit directly under his basking bulb all day, and the 5.0 have such a short penetration distance. My dragon is around a year old. I use ca without d3 4 days a week and with d3 once a week. Multivite twice a month. My beardie LOVES dubia, supers, silks, horns etc!! He eats any and all of my gutloaded bugs. The only restriction, if you want to call it such, is they shouldn't really consume citris fruits. Adult beardies should consume more veggies and less bugs. You can make your "salads" out of your gutload veggies, ie collard, turnip, mustard, dandelion greens, squash, sweet pots, green beans, snap peas and a few fruits. I dust the feeders but some will dust the salad. I know my dragon isn't always in the "mood" to eat his salad some days, and I know he will always eat his bugs. I feed bugs in the am and leave his salad accessible all day. Careful with the vitamin supplementing, cuz just like chams, they are prone to vit a toxicity. Place the basking lamp at one end of the terrarium to provide thermal gradiant. I have a lower wattage bulb to keep the temp on the "ambiant" side at about 80 degrees. I don't use any substrate. Mist a couple times a day, I have a large water bowl that he loves to sit in. They also usually enjoy warm baths!! It is normal for the dragon to gape when it basks too!! Something I had to get over :p
