No Hand Feeding?

Kiwi usually lets me hand feed her. But this morning she didn’t let me give her a mealworm treat by hand? But when i put it down on the ground she ate it. Does she not trust me anymore?

Based on your cham confession threads you may be stressing her out.... Have you made updates to her enclosure and husbandry since you did this thread?

If you have not then that is an issue for her as well.
Also you should not be feeding mealworms they are very low in nutritional value.
i’ve added a plant and removed the felt in her cage. i also mostly feed gutloaded crickets and roaches (haven’t been able to get roaches in the past three days due to pandemic) and the new cage STILL has not come in. but it doesn’t seem to be stressing her out because on my cham confessions i do that stuff rarely.

Did you get new lighting?
With having them in a tank like that you have to be extremely careful because there is no air circulation and it gets very hot fast. Also the humidity levels can get quite high giving them a respiratory infection.

Where did you order the cage from? That was like 20 days ago you said you ordered a new one. You may need to cancel the order and try to get one from a local pet store.

Adding to that @littlekiwi you totally ignored my feedback on the husbandry effecting her as soon as someone gave you an answer you agreed with. This will lead to major issues if you do not get the husbandry on point...

Not piling on... Look at some of the other threads the OP has done.

Uh kiwi is in a temp 20 gallon tank with some hand me down UVB and basking lights, for the last 2 weeks? Seems they put the cart before the horse on this one. Seems OP thinks chameleons can be treated/handled like beardies...

Ive adopted beardies that spent their early lives in the basket of powerwheels around the house. The cham wont like that :)

So I guess #1, stop handling and taking the cham out of the tank. #2 get uvb and a good supplement routine going.

OP can start attempted hand feedings once the reptibreeze and new lights are up and running, then its the chams decision to come out.

if the uvb is hand me down, it loses its power. You probably need new ones. That is, unless the hand me downs were handed down after being owned for a few months. And a 20 gallon tank is not adequate for a chameleon.
edit: sorry I thought the OP posted that, I didn't look at who posted it lol.

It is not about being harsh... You are asking a question... We are responding to the question. The truth is the husbandry aspect like what type of enclosure and lighting impacts how they react. So while she may have been hand feeding and is not now indicates there is either a trust issue or health issue. They hide illness very very well. By the time you see the signs externally it can be too late when they are young like this. Which is why we talk about husbandry so much.

We are happy to help. I do not care if your 17 or 47 I will treat you the same. I will give of my time to assist you. But you have to be open to all feedback from those of us who are experienced members.

i am open to it but not when it feels like i’m being attacked.

Trust me this is not an attack from any of us. Straight and to the point yes. We want to help you. So pull emotions out of the situation and talk facts with me.

How well is she eating? You got the T5HO fixture with the 5.0 UVB already correct?
