Hello again, you may remember me from the thread https://www.chameleonforums.com/considering-getting-panther-chameleon-65858/. Well, the little guy finally came in! He's adorable. I know you're supposed to put them in the cage right away, but I figured he could use some heat and sunlight since he was in the dark for around 24 hours being shipped to me. Heres a photo of Niles, the 2 and a half month old blue bar Ambilobe Panther chameleon, hatched on 6/21/2011 from Jim. The second photo is the one where he was taking sun.

One concern and one question. My basking light broke today. (Great timing, huh?) Im going to go and get a new one ASAP when my mom gets home, but until then should I take him outside a few times to warm up? He just came in today so I don't want to stress him out.

Also, what is organic soil? I wouldn't think its safe to put soil from outside in the plant pots that are in his cage. He has ficus and pothos, so the little guy should be happy. :D

being in miami i would think your abient temps will be just fine witha little panther that age you dont want it too hot i keep my lil ones at around 80-83 in the basking site
as far as organic soil its soil with no addivites it should say on the bag.
i use a plain soil with no fertilizer and just cover it all with large river rocks so my guys cant get at the dirt and munch on it.
i would keep handling to a minium for at least the first week, just to let the lil guy settle in
hes a cutie congrats

Okay thanks for the advice! I also plan on using Repti Calcium without D3 everyday, and Flukers calcium w/ D3 twice a day.

Nah just kidding, I plan on using the flukers calcium w/ d3 twice a month. As for vitamin A, I have heard different things. Is it really necessary? I know a multivitamin is, and I plan on using that twice a month as well. Can anyone recommend a good multivitamin?

Edit: Awwww, the poor little guy is so scared and stressed. He's in his cage and he's realllllly dark. Im not gonna touch him or anything for a long time.

Awesome! Grats on the new lil guy Pilot. lol believe it or not Im waiting on a second one to come in already. (blue bar panther baby).:D

Thanks! I love my little guy already. He's skittish like yours, but I expected that. Im just gonna give him time to rest. :D

Haha, already?! That was quick! Where did you order it from? If you ordered it from Jim at Chameleon company, we might have siblings. :)

I actually went with a forum member in the classifieds here(i'm sure it won't be my last chameleon lol). but no sadly it's not from CC/Jim. I was gonna go with him but saw the post and decided to take a chance.

It was reptilesetcetra https://www.chameleonforums.com/baby-blue-bar-panthers-66590/

Ahhh I see! Yeah I plan on more in the near future. Probably a nosey be female, or a blue bar ambilobe female.

Upload pics of your new guy when he arrives! How old is he?

Congrats on your little guy. I ordered one myself from Jim at the CC. He will be here Oct 4. Just getting his cage setup now. Do you have a dripper or mister for watering? They look so fragile at that size.

Thanks. :) Are ours siblings? The sire of mine was bonaroo.

Not a dripper yet. I do have a mister. I was planning on getting the dripper when I got my next paycheck. :D

Does anyone know a good multivitamin?

Sorry somehow it got posted twice and I don't know how to delete it. Mine was from Q. I just wondered if yours freaked out when you misted the cage?

Ehhhh.... I did it twice. He freaked out the first time. Then I tried misting near him. He slowly drank the water, and didn't freak out. :D

So can anyone recommend a good multivitamin?

I also have a reptibreeze enclosure. I know its not okay to rest a basking light on top, but it is okay to rest the uvb light on top of it, correct?

I had read that Rep Cal herpativite multivitamin is real good. I get a lot of my stuff from www.petmountain.com they have real good prices and free shipping if you order over $50. Is the little guy eating yet? That's one thing that worries me when I get mine is the eating and drinking. I'm hoping mine will find food in his big cage.

Reptivite is a better choice or an all in one like Repashy calcium plus. Herptivite does not have a form of Vit A that a panther can readily use.

Awesome, thanks.

I haven't seen him eat but he drinks in front of me like nothing. Hes also shedding now.

Is reptivite all in one? And by all in one, do you mean calcium, multivitamin, d3, and vitamin A?

Most do not eat much when they are shedding so do not worry about that.

Reptivite is a multivitamin like Herptivite but it has Retenol rather than Beta Carotene. Panthers have a very limited ability to use Bete Carotene, so Reptivite would be better.

Repashy Calcium Plus is the only currently available all in one supplement. With it you can use just that everyday. It is newer but shows promise.
