What's the optimum night temp for a less than 2 months old veiled cham? Would it be too cold if the temp is below 70F but above 65F at night?

My veiled cham didn't eat for two days and he started sleeping at daytime since yesterday. I have him for 5 days only and I understand that I might lose him... :(

Comfortably at 60 during night, they need the drop in temp, if you're worried if'll get below 60 buy a ceramic heat emitter, not a red bulb.

your cham would be happy at 70. 80 is probally about right under basking dureing the day for a young cham 80 will also suit it if its a female for its life. do you have your lights on an automatic timer? this might help with getting the cham in sync...but it seems like theres more going on than just that. :( go to the health area and copy and paste the "How To Ask For Help" in hear. than fill it out. mabey we can help more.

Chameleon Info:
• Your Chameleon – Male Veiled Chameleon, 6 weeks old. Have had him for 5 days. Handling – He doesn’t like to be handled.
• Feeding – Gutload crickets with dandelion leaves, orange and baby carrots. Fed him in the morning after lights on. He only ate 2 crickets (about ½” in size) each on Thursday and Friday. He hasn’t eaten since yesterday.
• Supplements – Dust crix with Repashy Calcium Plus daily.
• Watering – Mist 4 times a day with 3-4 mins each by Mist King. Cham drank after misting sometimes.
• Fecal Description – Mainly dark in colour and it’s not runny. However, a very little yellowish in poo this morning.
• History -

Cage Info:
• Cage Type – 18”x18”x36” screen cage
• Lighting – 18” Zoo Med Repti Sun 5.0 and 5.5 basking lamp with 40W regular light bulb. Lights on from 6:30AM to 7:00PM with automatic timer.
• Temperature – 82F at basking spot, 71F for the rest of the cage at daytime. I believe lowest overnight temp should be abive 65F. Temp reading is taken by infra-red thermometer.

• Location – Toronto Ontario?

I filled in the form already but no one can help???

Never mind. My baby veiled passed away last night.

So sorry to hear of your loss. There may have been something wrong with your little guy before he came into your home. I would recommend reading up on the boards and trying again with a reputable breeder and a slightly older chameleon.

Hi,

I really have no idea what went wrong to cause his death. I read a lot on this forum and other web sites regarding enclosure setup, gutloading feeder... etc before I adopted my first cham.

I have a few questions would like to ask.

First of all, how do I know if I was over dusting the feeder? Is it safe to use Repashy Calcium Plus on baby cham?
Secondly, humidity in my cage was always below 40%, even though I misted 4 times a day, 3-4 mins per session by Mist King. I already put 2 corrugated plastic to cover 3/4 on 2 sides of the cage. Would low humidity be a huge issue to a baby cham?
Thirdly, the night temp was around 65F (I think) or may be lower, but definitely above 60F. Would it be too cold to a baby cham? Do I really need to have a ceramic heat emitter?

What would trigger development of edema under throat and kidney failure?

Any advice is much appreciated. Thank you.

the problem was already probally; however, over supping MAY have done something. im not saying it did or didnt beacuz i really dont know. 60 is fine i dont think you needed anything for that. 40% wasnt to gr8 but probally wuddnt have killed him. you can get a humidifer for that. a really nice one is only like 40$ and work pre dern good. idk about supping panthers as i stated in another thread. you dont want your feeders to be little ghosts tho. theres supping days.

--can anyone please explain how to supp/howmuch to supp/ and when to for a panther?

What I think is that you got a baby that was way too young. Taking care of babies is very hard. I have 60+ babies right now and its exhausting. I keep them in the exoterra minis (tall version). Their temperatures are about 80 in the day and drop to low 70s at night. I dust the feeders with Calcium W/O D3 every feeding and with D3 2x a month. I also dust with multivitamins 2x a month.

I suggest you try again, but with a baby that is at least 3 months old that way he is already well started and you will have an easier job.

You've probably already been directed to this blog, but it never hurts to read it again. I do once in a while.
