Nicest chameleon.?

Panthers are calm in general. All my panthers are really kind except for one. They all have their own different personalities. It just depends how you treat them I guess.

Mine!:D...... and he's not for sale. LOL!....I think if you get them young..& get them used to you,you should have no problem. I dont think any Locale is any friendlier than another. It can sometimes just boil down to personality;) You get lucky or you dont.

lol. Thanks guys. I'm not looking at buying one right now, just ever since I got my veiled I've seen why everyone loves their chameleons. And can't just have one. My veiled isn't very nice though, maybe because I haven't had her for long. But I heard they weren't the nicest either. I was just thinking about getting a panther after the summer, once I have more money to buy one and more time. lol.

my female veiled is actually quite funny. it's like she gets period mood swings because seemingly on a monthly basis, she will turn into a raging bitch, then calm down again after a while

Then maybe I got her at a bad time and she'll calm down. I've only actually handled her twice, and once was because I had to get her out to clean her enclosure. Even when I simply spray her tank she flares up and hisses at me. Yesterday she finally ate her crickets from my hand though. :)

i actually started handling my girl when she was young and it always stressed her out. after a while i figured out that if i can lure her out with a super worm (her favorite) a little while before she is set to go to bed, when she is tired, i could lure her out onto my hand, give her the super worm, then she would be too tired to really be angry or anything, so she would just chill on my hand

Have had a few panthers from different breeders and a few as rescues and every single one has been different in personality and character even though they live the same and I provide the same living conditions they all turn out to be different in character.

Even though I don't like to 'push' human emotions and characteristics on them they are all different and out going in their own way. So I suppose its the luck of the draw if you get a friendly one or not....either way i respect them all the same :)

:) So maybe I didn't get a very lucky one. Its all good though, because I love her all the same. I'm just really in love with the panthers and once I'm done with my summer job I'll have enough money to buy one, plus all the things I'll need for it. I want to get a male this time though, cause I don't want to risk all the egg stuff with him. I still looking on sites at breeders and what kind of panthers, I just really like all of them. I don't know if I'll ever be able to make my mind up on which one I want...

Hmmm...I'll defiantly have to try luring her out with food while she's tired. She doesn't seem to really get tired until I turn her lights off, so maybe I'll do it in the morning. :) I have hope she'll get a little nicer anyway. hehe.

What have you got and how old is she? :)

I really do find food (hand feeding) and free ranging a great incentive to make most chams more trusting over time....

I have a six to eight month old female veiled. Sadly, that's all I really know about her. The woman I bought her from bought her on a whim because her friend had got a male. She wanted baby chameleons, and found out they were to much work. So I bought her. :D

Free-ranging.? I've hand fed her once, she ate three crickets from me.

What panthers would you suggest and from where.? Just to get a better idea. :)

Well at 6 - 8 months of age I would be concentrating on her as she is at the age of egg laying and maturing etc. I don't have females but if you look up Jannb and her blogs on females it will give you a wealth of info about your girl and what you need to do. She sounds very special and the fact you have spent the time researching to make her life the best is really great on your part. :)

If you want a male panther then just look at any of our sponsors...they are all great and will provide what you want. Mine came from Screameleons in 2007 and he is a gem but my rescues over the last few years I am not sure of their origins but I still have all my fingers no matter how nasty they get :)

Yea, their personalities are very much luck of the draw. This actually has no scientific validity but in my experience my 3 crosses were the friendliest out of the 5 panthers I've had. The male I have now is a gem, so docile and sweet. I've taken him to my university to be gawked at and interacted with for a couple hours and he did really well. I got him from the Chameleon Company for half of what panthers usually go for, which seemed way more reasonable. But the locale isn't that important, it boils down to the individual.

Just go for the one you love the most. You've going to love looking at him, might as well be one that has your favorite colors!

Theres no difference in general between different types of panthers. a panther is a panther, whether it is an ambilobe, ambanja, nosy be, etc.
Though the coloring is different, the personality is luck of the draw.

As for your female, shes probably going through her teen years and might chill later.
I also found that if you free range them, they get alot happier.. or at least more tolerant of you.

Do be careful giving them food late in the day. They need both heat & time to digest the food. They should normally be fed in the morning or very early afternoon. jmo

All of my chameleons are nice and very friendly. They each have their own personality but none are mean. I take the very best care of them, free range them, give them nothing but love and respect and interact with each of them daily.

I've always wondered whether there is any genetic link with regards to personality/aggression.

Its always been a curiosity of mine that if you took 2 extremely placid soft natured chams (male & female) and bred them, whether the hatched clutch would have a high rate of the same temperament...

I wonder if anyone has tried to prove or rubbish this theory before?

I feed her in morning before I go to school. :)

what exactly is free ranging.?

the thing is, I dont know what my favorite ones are. they are all so beautiful. its hard tto decide, so I'm glad I have time. I was thinking about getting one of the crossbreds, because they seem really cool and unique.

I think it could be genetic because all the Luie and Camille babies were friendly but I was very hands on with them right from the start.
