Newbie with Senegal Chameleon questions

I am a newbie and reading a bunch on here. There is rarely any info on the Senegal Chameleon. He is so much fun I wanted to buy another Chameleon, but wanted a more colorful one, so I was thinking about a Panther Cham, but after reading more about the Panther I think my Senegal is not like the typical Veiled or Panther most people talk about on here. For one before reading here I didn't think Chams bite or hiss. My Senegel is very nice. Goes from the branch to my palm and climbs all over me. Hunts crickets down quickly and I have never heard it hiss or try to bite at all. He climbs on my 3 year olds arm! I wish he had more colors like I see the Panthers on here, but from what I read everyone says not to handle them and that they hiss and bite. Is the Senegal known to be a nice Cham compared to the rest? I found very little info on them and rarely see them for sale. He/She is very very friendly. I'm just confused...

Senegals are much more likely to be docile when compared to most of the more commonly kept chameleons. Where did you get yours?

I used to be into reptiles when I was younger and heard an ad on the radio about a local reptile expo show. So I decided to go and I have kids now, so wanted to get something that I would feel safe having. The only Chameleon I could find was a Senegal and he/she was only $12. Well I wouldn't have bought it if I new I had to drop around $200 in supplies! Now I'm addicted because it's exciting to watch it eat and change colors and how amazing it is when you put it outside in the sun. I used to be into snakes and such, but I remember how deceivingly cute they are when they are small, but once they are big they are not so much fun anymore. He's really awesome and now I want to get another chameleon that has more colors, but I want a nice one also? I don't want a hissing Panther.

Also is it ok for chameleons to eat earwigs or carpenter ants? Just wondering as I put the cage outside on my deck during the day and somehow carpenter ants and earwigs got into the cage. Not sure if he ate them or not, but I saw some crawling around in there and wanted to know if it was safe for him to eat them.

I doubt the chameleon will b interested in earwigs.. nor ants..
i seriously dislike them..

Thanks for the info guys. Much appreciated. I've been catching flies with a fish net and feeding him outside. It's amazing how he can catch them and how fast they are!
