Hey Everybody,

After several years of practicing and planning, we are finally making the move from the suburbs of Camden, NJ to a small farm around Henderson County, TN. Jackson or Memphis would be the closest cities there.
Is there anyone familiar with the area that could recommend a good vet/pet store/etc etc? I've been looking through online reviews, but it would be great to hear from other cham owners too. We should be making the final haul down in September, we hope. Thanks!

Hey KarmaChams,,,,
Welcome to the mid south!! Hope you like it hot and humid!!! ;) I live in Olive Branch Mississippi, which is just outside of Memphis. I work at a hospital in Memphis and have lived here most of my life. My husband and I both have family in Jackson, which is just a short trip up the road.
I know of two good vets that work with exotics here in Memphis, Dr. David Hannon @ Memphis Veterinary Specialists and Dr. Shannon McGhee @ Collierville Animal Clinic.
As far as the Jackson area I'll have to ask my husband about that since he grew up there.

Other than Petco or Petsmart, Reptile stores are another story, there aren't any here in Memphis, nor do I think there are any in Jackson. :( the closest decent one is in Nashville, just upnthe road from Jackson, it's called "Aquatic Critter", fish and reptiles are their deal....

My husband ownes an aquarium/fish store in Memphis and I do a lot of ordering through him, slot of the places he deals with also carry reptile supplies.

I'm glad to hear of another Cham owner moving to the area, I only know of two others that have chams and theirs are not friendly, hiss and won't be handled..

I have a 16 month old male Veiled, Stanley, had him for 14 months now and he is the friendliest little guy ever!!!! Got him from Jannb here on CF, she handled him and his siblings fom day one so he is very people friendly!!!! Probably the main reason I have been successful with him, he's my first reptile!

Ok, I'm spent, I hope all of this helps you and I'll find out about Jackson area vets!

What are you bringing down with you?

Just the info I was looking for! Thank you very much! I have been talking about starting a farm there my whole life, so I am pretty overly-excited, haha. I'll have to check out Olive Branch - we are moving to Reagan, TN. I am getting a resume together to try to find a good job in a pet store down there. I have spent years in small business management and have bred/collected reptiles as a hobby my whole life, so hoping to infuse the two. Let me know if your hubby wants a reptile guy!! (i'm cheap) :p hahaha

Unfortunately we had to find homes for some of our pets - my wife and I found good homes for our 2 dogs and placed them with friends and we adopted out our boa breeding collection (Dumerils, Albino RTBs and Central Americans).
BUT we are bringing our chams! I have a pair of Verrucosus (Giant Spinies) which just layed 2 days ago, and a trio of Lateralis (Carpets). The Spinies are tempermental, but okay with people being very very close. The Carpets are alot of fun, but I try not to handle them too much as they're so tiny and feel so fragile.

Veileds are so neat, what a great first reptile! I am hoping to join (or start if I have to) a local Cham club when we get settled in. Thanks again for your advice it is greatly appreciated!

Glad I could offer some useful info for you and Steph. It's awful to havevto move and give up you pets but at least you found good homes for them!

I'm not familiar with Regan,I'll have to look it up.

I don't know about Giant Spinies but carpets are awesome and one I've been interested in learning more about and possibly having one day.

For now Richard, my husband, is only doing fish and supplies, every now and then he thinks of expanding but it's just not in the cards yet.

Good luck with the move and let me know if there's another assistance I can be!!!!!!

hey Jennifer.... it is good to find someone else local that has a cham!! i've taken Stanley to see Dr. McGee twice about 9 months agoish,, were you working there then?

lisa

oh yeah, your little fellow has some nice color and looks great!!!

Hey Lisa! Yes I have been with the Clinic for almost 10yrs now. What feeders does your Veil like? I order alot from some Sponsors on here and sometimes Ozzie doesn't eat them all so maybe we can swap feeders for our picky Chams.

Thanks! Our dogs went with friends, so that's good. We can still get updates. We'll have to pay a visit to the store sometime! I have a couple of turtles, as well. Thanks again!

You are brave! I could not live in such a place, I have no problem with the state, but most of them are famers and just... I am not going to get into that.

I guess I am a city person. Hope you like it there!
