Hello, I'm new to this forum although I've been lurking for over a year. I'm a long time(as in, most of my life this far) reptile fanatic, have kept a decent variety of species. However, I'm new to chams. I work in a pet store in MA, so when chameleons were legalized last year I started looking on here to get information on how to keep them as best we can in our store.
Anyway, after selling our first veiled to an experienced Cham owner, we got a second one. She didn't sell fast, and started to outgrow her enclosure. She ended up with pinworms and by the time we treated her for that, she was too big for our display cages. We left her out back, and we ended up having her over a year. I had started accumulating chameleon stuff gradually, having fallen in love with her. Well, last week someone looked at her who wanted to put her in a small cage and just feed her greens. I couldn't have that, so I set up her cage and brought her home, slightly impulsively( if a week between decision and full blown purchase is impulsive...) anyway, after that book, I'm going to fill out the help thing to make sure I'm in the right track.
Your Chameleon - Approximately 14-18 months, female veiled. Been caring for her for a year at work, a week at home
Handling - Once or twice a week at work, haven't since she's been home
Feeding - Mix of crickets, dubia(going to be her primary now) silk and waxworms, about every other day. She took 8 dubia nymphs on Tuesday. Gut load includes rabbit pellets, oranges, sweet potato, leftover pangea crested gecko diet, kale, flukers orange cube, etc.
Supplements - flukers with d3 every other feeding, reptivite every so often. Will be changing this after reading recommended schedules
Watering- I mist heavily 3+ times a day & have a dripper. Have seen her drink once since she's been home
Fecal Description - Firm, dark brown with white/ tiny bit of orange urates. Well formed. Negative fecal probably 3 months ago
History - Think I covered that in my novel
Cage Info:
Cage Type - 18x18x36 reptibreeze, with 3 sides covered in plastic wrap
Lighting - Reptisun 5.0 cfl (not a big fan, will be upgrading this to a tube shortly) with a 25 watt bulb for heat
Temperature - Floor of cage is about 78 during the day, basking about 83-85. Night time drop to between 73-75. Measure with an exo terra therm/hygrometer & double checked with a laser
Humidity - Rises to about 80% when I mist 3-4 times daily and drops to about 30 or so while I'mat work. Looking into a humidifier.
Plants - for now, I have a small schefflera and a pothos. Want to add more.
Placement- in front of a well insulated window, for now. Need to juggle furniture so I can move her away from there. No drafts, at least, and covered by a shade. Top of cage 5 ish feet up
Location - Mass
Current Problem - just checking if in on the right track
