Hi, I found a chameleon in my garden yesterday and I would like to know what I can do to encourage them...what plants they like and what not to do.

Hey, welcome to the forums!
Can you post some pictures of the cham you found?! That makes it easyer, but i guess its a veiled chameleon:D

Hi Ricardo.

I wish I could send you a picture. Unfortunately I didn't actually find it, a friend of mine did and decided to play silly buggers with me. He told me to "spot the chameleon" and by the time he gave up and was going to show it to me it had moved! As soon as I manage to find one I will take a pic. I spoke to someone today who thinks it may be a Cape Dwarf Chameleon. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cape_Dwarf_Chameleon

A cape dwarf...nice one! Where do you live? :) In Sout Africa maybe the are common lizards in the backyards...maybe.. :D

Hello Lynne, glad you could join us. Finding a chameleon in your back yard would be wonderful. And it is great that you aren't grabbing it and bring it in but rather encouraging it in the wild. My first thought would be to get a look at the kind of plant the cham was on and put more of that plant in the same location, next I would try to buy the type of insects that chams eat, that are legal where you live, and let a lot lose in that area. If the area is fairly dry right now the cham may have been looking for water. Take a couple of gallon jugs put a pin hole in them and put them in a tree as droppers. I have no idea if any of this will help but it is what the cham would need so to me it makes sense. Good luck and we would love pictures but I would not try to get very close to the cham as you may frighten it away. I would rather have the cham near than some people on this forum get to see pictures.:)
