New Set Up

Hello everyone!

I am going to be getting a 4-6 month old ambilobe for Christmas and have the cage already setup. I have a 16"x16"x30" and will upgrade the size when he is older. I have a live umbrella plant and a variety of branches and vines for home to walk on. Ther is a spot in his cage that can reach up to 100 degrees but I will fix that soon. His basking spot is usually at 82-83 degrees farenheight and the rest of his cage is usually in the mid 70's. I have a Repti-Sun 5.0 UVB strip bulb, a 75 watt basking bulb, and a 60 watt night time heat bulb. I got the heat bulb because I live in Colorado and in the winter the temperature can be in the negatives, so I just want him to be warm at night. I will feed home 10-12 small crickets a day. I will dust them with calcium powder every feeding, calcium with d3 on the first and 15th of the month, and multivitamin on the 18th and 28th of the month. I do however have one problem. I have an Exoterra Monsoon RS400 msiting system, but I just can't raise the humidity above 30 percent. I will mist the cage for 120 second every hour, but I still have had no luck. I have considered getting a fogger too, but any help is appreciated. Thanks!

What do the temps in your house get down to at night? Chams usually don't need a heat source at night. A drop into the 60's is fine because it helps them achieve deep sleep. If you do need to provide night heat, it is best to use a ceramic heat emitter. Light can disrupt their sleep patterns. As for humidity, you may need to cover a few sides of the enclosure with a shower curtain to achieve higher humidity levels. How many times a day is the mister set to go off and for how long? You could also add more live plants. Either inside (if you have room), or around the outside of the cage. Live plants help to raise humidity.
