Hi to everyone,
I'm a new-ish member, been reading posts on these forums for a few months but only joined up in September after purchasing my first chameleon, Creature, at a reptile show.
He's a male veiled, about 6 months old, and by far the most cantankerous animal I've ever had the pleasure of caring for. He's definitely a no-handling kind of guy, I nearly lost a finger the first time I tried to take him out (yes, he had a few weeks to himself right after he moved in, this just seems to be who he is!). Thankfully he's finally to the point where I can open the cage without him hissing and then running for cover.
the second picture is an example of his typical pose for the camera where he scowls at me over his shoulder.
I've finally got his cage with as many plants and sticks as seems appropriate, he's got a humidifier that produces this nifty fog which condenses on the leaves, two incandescent bulbs for heat and light and a UVB bulb. I built the cage myself, it's a wood frame with waterbased stain and polyurethane and seems to be resisting water damage so far. It's got a big plastic pan in the bottom with a lip which keeps water from pooling on the wood. You can see it in the first picture, unfortunately my cell phone camera doesn't do well in high contrast situations but you get the idea.
anyway, this seems like a great community, I'm excited to be a part of it!
