hi i plan on to introduce my adult male to free ranging tomorrow i got a nice big hibiscus prob 5' from base to top of tree , i was just wondering what should i use to put under neath the pot where the tree is planted , to help from my cham incase he wanders to low i really dont want him to get on the floor level or do u think he will stay high enough in tree that i dont need to worry about it , Thank You

And one more thing would it all so be ok to start free ranging my gravid female or let her lay first ? Thanks Again

Their is not much you can do besides chameleon proof the room or only freerange when ur there, unless u build some kind of huge funnel thing around base that he couldn't climb???

ok thank you, would it be a bad idea for the female to free range while being gravid? would i need to have a lay bin in the free range area and also in her cage thanks

what you can do is put something like the dog cones that they put on dogs after the vet visit and put it up side down open part facing the floor. This won't allow him to climb on it. At the reptile expo Amazing blue reptiles always have up the sires on top of their booth and they have sone thick plastic bowls that aren't to big and they have them upside down and will keep the chameleon on its perch

I wouldn't free range the female .. they tened to be high strung when gravid.. I don't like to bug mine to much .. i keep her in a room by her self (no action) that way she can chill till she lays .. but its ok with her .. who cares what evenone says

you can try to hang the pot from the ceiling buy some hooks that go into ur ceiling and tht should keep the cham from going down since there will be nothing there for it to grab on..unless its frisky and will jump off ..but for that you will need to observe how the cham acts around its FR area:D

send me a pm, and i will make you a video..i free range my chams 24\7..and also just had my female (witch was also free range 24\7) just lay her eggs in the laying bin next to the bottom of her tree..they do great in free ranges, you just have to keep an eye on them for the first week or two, and watch for chams walking around when you come home (i have found my male twice in the past 6 months, on my laundry bin ,,same spot)lol..

Hey that sounds neat! I'd love to see the video also! I always thought it was best to keep her caged until she deposited the eggs. This way you know where they end up and you more closely monitor her and her progress. Free ranging the chameleons really allows them to not be so threatened by you when you approach them. I personally always chameleon proofed the room and never free ranged them to about the five or six month mark on my panthers.

i will work on making a good, long vid showing it from the ground up (tree i use, soil, vines, lighting, supplements, gut load, feeders, mist set up, filtered water or not, ect ect..im just getting it all situated..:D

if he does not have food/water/heat/everything EXACTLY when he wants it, eh will come down. There is always a chance of falling as well. It does and will happen at some point sooner or later.

as for the gravid female I don't know i haven't had any females but as long as you supply her a lay-bin i dont see why it would matter much
