New Cham owner in Tampa

Hey folks. Just picked up a baby veiled female chameleon this past weekend, 9/7. I've always been a dog owner and this is my first reptile so this is very different to say the least... but I'm learning the curve quickly.

Here name is Hojita(oh-hee-tah), which is Spanish for leaf.

Here's her setup:

- Reptibreeze 16x16x20.
- Powersun Mercury UVB 100w in a Mini Deep Dome (I hear mixed emotions about the single bulbs).
- Little Dripper (sucks and purchasing a mist king this weekend).
- Zoo Med Temp/Hum gauge
- Small live Pothos repotted in organic soil.
- Several oak dows, jungle vines, etc for her to get around.
- Small rock dish to help catch drops.
- Mist 2x a day with warm water + reptisafe.
- Basking temp 90-93
- Humidity 50s

I've been feeding her small crickets and meal worms that I gut load with bug burger, hydrate with the yellow lukers stuff, and dust with repcal.

Overall she seems to still be getting used to everything. I've hand fed her worms, she comes out willingly, and seems to be healthy so far (good eyes, urate, weight, active.) Only thing I've seen her show colors or puff on is when my cattle dog got near her cage or I'm misting, though I don't mist onto her.

Oh and pictures will be up soon.

I would check the caresheets on the Forum under resources- according to them your basking temps are a little too high. I would check out the video on preparing a laying bin for when that time comes. There is also a good thread on lighting called the "Definitive Lighting Thread" in the enclosure forum. You can read about mercury vapor vs linear tube lighting, your mercury bulb may be what is driving up the temps. After reading that I went to an Arcadia T5HO bulb. I have a MistKing but still have to use a dripper occasionally- my cham loves the "shower" but does not drink every time. Hopefully an experienced veiled keeper will chime in soon, I have a panther. Good luck with your new girl!

That's her setup. Thanks for the info too!

well i just got back from it and its a reptile show

Ah I see. How was it?

Are you in the Tampa Bay area? I purchased my Veiled from a place called Herps Hobby Shop in Oldsmar. He's actually the one that pushed me to buy the Powersun (he says and does use it on all of his reptiles), but I see everyone else pushing the Reptisun 5.0 tube.

I purchased a temp gun as well and her basking spot is around 89deg. I raised it a little, but don't want it too far that she isn't absorbing the UV spectrum so i'm trying to find a happy medium.

Should I ditch the Powersun bulb? Is it that bad? It's kind of crappy since the bulb was pretty darn expensive if I do have to.

Also, her mist king should be in next week. I also plan to get a drain pan from Tiki Tiki, drill a few holes into the bottom of it, and have it rested on top of a bathroom vanity cabinet with a 5 gallon bucket under so I can not worry about spillage.

this was my first show so i have nothing to compare it to but it was mostly ball pythons. a few chameleons and others. plenty of bearded dragons too. would definetly check it out.

Any vendors selling goodies? I'm trying to grab a MistKing and was going to order it, but I'D much rather grab it locally if I can.
