New baby veiled chameleon

Hi guys, this is my first writing at this lovely forum. I have just received my baby veiled chameleon an hour ago (2-3 months old) he came from a long journey.
how should i feed him as his first meal? :) Thanks for any answer.

PS: I have just got mealworms at the moment. I have ordered some crickets and superworms. They are on the way. Also im sorry if my english is bad :(
 
Congrats on your new baby! I just got my first one a couple days ago, this forum has been really helpful, and your English seems good to me!

I've only gotten mine to eat when I hold a low ridged container beside him, he notices things moving around and goes after them.
I plan on installing a shelf type thing so I can set his container up closer to the top where he hangs out.
You should post a pic!!!
 
Hello, welcome to the forum :) First, don't be worried if he seems very scared of you or if he doesn't want to eat yet. If he does eat straight away you have been lucky. Everybody worries about their chameleons!

Thanks everyone for all of the attention. I have already read them before :p. But i have just read again :) But i have some problems with my phone's camera :/ I will upload pics as soon as possible. Also he didnt eat any of his mealworms. :(

PS:I have a ficus tree in his encoulsure. This is fine for him ,right?
 
Welcome to the forums, anything you need to know, just ask, there are many peoploe on here that will be happy to give great advice...congrats on your new little one.
 
Picasso , thank you too. I wanna ask one more questin about my baby. He ate a meal worm yesterday but thats all.He ate nothing more :/ when i try to feed him he scares and runs away into the leaves. Should i leave him alone? Or Keep trying to feed? :)

PS: I try to feed him like every hour for 5 min.
 
In my opinion this is too much pestering of him. How many days have you had him? Just mealworms is not a good food. is best if you have some crickets which have eaten good vegetables (any good gutload fo all insects). or some fruit flies maybe to be loose in his house. read the psychobunny blog. you should not want to only hand feed. leave him alone to get used to where he is withought a big giant monster watching him all the time. he will be scared to eat.
 
Thanks for your reply. I got him yesterday. And i ordered some crickets, small locusts and some superworms :) They are on the way.
 
That is good on the feeders. Remember take it slow and like stated before try and give the little Guy some privacy. I know its hard, but if his cage is small enough u could try and let some feeders run around the enclosure as well as cup feed. This will help familiarize him with his new home and build confidence. Remember the more feeders the better so its good your starting to order different types already! Enjoy your buddy! Oh yea be careful with the loose feeders in his cage. Don't release to many crickets some tend to bite your cham without him realizing so its best to feed like that when your gonna be around and can keep an eye on him!
 
Ok, sounds a bit difficult to keep a close eye on him and not watch him.......and he's so cute and beautiful you always want to admire him as well.......
But this is why cham keepers are such paranoid mentalists.....we love it lol.
My advice is to leave the crickets and walk away. Do not worry about them biting him in the daytime, he is not that stupid and helpless and delicate :)
He can fend for himself while you think about him but give him privacy. Take the crickets out about an hour before his bedtime and you can get an idea of how many he has eaten. Try to get them all but don't worry too much if you miss one.
So, again don't release too many - it makes it harder to count!
 
Sorry if I got a little confusing there just meant that if you are walking by u can shoot a quick look in and make sure all is well when ur around rather than just releasing a bunch in the cage and heading to work for eight hours at a time. The Guy who actually got me interested in chameleons used to do this to his baby and I always remembered seeing little light marks on his little Guy even when he got older and realized this is what it probably was from. Even with my Guy who is about a year old I try to only do it when ill be around. I'm certain he would be ok without me there I just like to make sure I'm around cause its right that we tend to be over-protective.
 
Right on man ill just keep to myself I apologize to the forum for putting out the wrong info. I didn't mean anything I just thought I would give it a shot and participate it seems though that unless you have "senior member" next to your name that any help you try and give is wrong. Again I apologize guys!
