Need your oppinions!!!!

Hi,
Just bought zem from the pet store about 2 weeks ago. When i bought him the guy at the pet store told me he was 8 weeks old but im not to sure if he was right or not they also told me to feed him like 3-5 crickets a day. he is about 6in. from nose to beginning of his tail and 2in. from stomch to top of head... Dose that sound like a 10 week old? but he will also eat as meny crickets i put in his cage for they are his fav. so far... but i'v been putting about 6 in a day for fear the pet store was wrong about his age. He also will not eat anything that isn't alive any tips on how to get him interested in dead foods and greens and fruit? He dosen't take to hand feeding at all but i might have been moving my hand to much or something... pls help im worryed about his health.

well we need to know just what type of chameleon you are talking about first.
then we need to know if it's a male or female.
but if its a male veiled, then it sounds more like a 6 to 7 month old guy to me.

again, if male, I would feed about 8-10 crickets per day, depending on size of the crickets.
if Female, I would feed 5-6 crickets per day.

again, we realy need to know what kind of cham you have...pics help.

Zem is a Male Veild... sorry about not including that in the former message. I also dont have any current pics bc someone put a password on there roughter and no i have no internet at my house and have to use my work comp for everything and it is slow as poo. but hopefully i will be able to get some up from my friends comp... He seems to be in pretty good shape considering he seems real strong likes to sit on my shoulder more then my hand i have him set up with a 23w UVB bulb a basking light and a small house fan mounted above his incloser i currently have him in a 25 gal fish tank with paper towls taped with evimently non-toxic tape so he cant see his reflextion untill i build his new 3'X3'X6' cage this coming payday next Fri.
 
Pictures are always helpful with a question like this, but I agree with Harry.

Never heard of a cham eating dead foods. You may be able to try those vibrator plates, but seriously ordering live crix online is so much cheaper than anything in a can..Not to mention healthier. Gut-loading is a fundamental part of husbandry.
 
O all the crickets he has been eating have been alive its just hard for the pet stores where i live to get anything else besides live crickets i can ocassinly find live waxworms witch he did eat i put them in a small glass side dressing glass so they could be seen easyer when they warmed up the began to move and that is when he got them but i also bought caned mealworms and he did take a liking to them at all i even put a 2-3 in with 3-4 waxworms and he only ate one mealworm but all the live waxworms i think the only reason that he ate the one mealworm is bc it was close to the waxworm and he got it on acident... so i figure he dosent like stuff that dosent move. i havent tryed any fruit yet but considering that he won't take anything out of my hand so far i would and fruit dosnt move so im going to go with probly not.. lol but i can still try i would realy like to start to get him to feed from my hand i read some blogs on the subject already i hope one of them work if not it was worth a shot... :)
 
Welcome Aaron. I will go with Harry. I just sold a clutch of veileds who were 4 months old and only 4 1/2 snout to vent. If your guy is 6 inches you are looking at a older veiled that the pet store told you. Good news is veileds are pretty hardy as chameloens go. If you make sure everything is good from now on, unless he has major problems now, he should be fine. Where are you located? That might help us know what to tell you and where you could get anything you need live live crickets. When you said dead food did you just mean fruits & veggies? That is ok but chamemeons don't eat dead prey, like crickets, worms, bugs, ect. They require live food with supplements added fro their health. The web site you were refered to will cover all of this stuff really well. But we are here for questions. Hope some of this was helpful.
 
He has a 26 watt Repti Glo 10.0 UVB and he has a EXO TERRA 50W SUN GLO HALOGEN lights on the top of his incloser for right with the small house fan mounted about 2' above the tank to help keep cuirculation now like i sead ill be building his new home next fri 10/30. the light stay on 12 and off 12 set up with a timer. I mist him about 2 - 3 times a day for about 5min each time. the tanks temp. seams to stay around 95 at the top and 80 near the bottom hopefully this will be affishent enof till his new home is ready he also has a pothis plant sitting in my window that he like's to chill on while im home this will be going into his new house for it belongs to him lol. umm.. besides that anymore info needed??

I'm running outa the house to mail something for Laurie, so this will be quick.

your temps sound a bit high, try to move the basking light away more.
get the temps in the basking spot around 85F.
when he gets older, say 1 year you can get the temps a little warmer.

not too sure about your lights...I hope your UVB light is not a compact bulb.
personaly, many of us us reptisun 5.0 tube floresents.
a standard houshold bulb for basking is quite fine and gives off UVA light.
say a 25w-40w housholb bulb will be fine for basking.

Im located in Irwin, PA 15642 just a few miles away from Pittsburg infact i work realy close to Pittsburg. As far as the suppliments and dusting for the crickets i just built them a very well cricket cage from a plastic bin. Cuting out the sides and top of the lid and replacing it with fiberglass screen non-toxic hot glue to hold it in place works real good i took the disign from this guy http://www.veiled-chameleon.com/weblog/archives/000258.html as far as the gut loading is i went to the local petstor and bought the 8oz. bag of GutLoad i build them two dishes filling one with the gut load and one with water i would like to buy the Flickers gell stuff but running alittle low on cash this week im going to prob. put some brocoli and colliflower or some thing in there as well for the proper gutload but when i sead dead food i was mainly talking about the dead mealworms i bought him but i would like for him to eat some fruits and vegis if any advice on what kind of fruits and vegi they like would be helpfull i dust two crickets with calcium out of the 6 i feed him daily i dont have any other vitumen powders yet any advice on what kind of vitumen powder i should get besides the Calcium??

Age Oppinions!?!?

When i bought my veild Male Charm the guy at the pet store told me he was 8 weeks old well me knowing nothing about charms at this time i was like ok...:confused: so i asked you guys and you told me to put up picks of him and i wasnt able to till now if you just visit my profile the pics are under there... If someone could pls help me with how old he is bc i think the petstore guy is full of it!:confused:

Thanks Pure i thought he was lookin alittle fat i was giving him like 6-8 per day so ill take that advice and skip the days and feed on like mon. wen. fri. sun. that should work out...
 
I know im going to sould dumb asking this but what is a casque i'v looked all over for the deffintion and just cant seem to find it??
 
When Luie (my male veiled) was that size I fed him everyday and he would eat 12 or so feeders a day. I didn't cut him back to every other day until he was about 10 months old. That seemed to work fine for Luie.

The casque it the tall pointed thing on the top of his head.
