Need Help Chosing a New Cage

As some of you might know, I'm looking for a pretty large glass cage for my panther. After contacting just about everybody imaginable, I have found only 3 possible solutions to my problem.

1. The cheapest and easiest solution is the exo terra 36x18x36. I have found the cheapest quote for this is a local shop for $399, but they have a sale on right now so its 30% off, so approximately $280+tax.

2. Komodo Exotics/Northern Reptiles is willing to build me a custom cage thats 36x36x48. They are located about 1h45m away from me, so pickup isn't much of a problem. However, the cage is all glass, with a screen top. No vents of any kind. It would have sliding doors. He quoted me at $650. It would be about 3 weeks to build.

3. I contacted Greg at CornelsWorld, and he quoted me at $552 for 24x24x48 and $735 for 36x36x48. The larger one is out of the question sadly. Same issue as before with it being all glass with a screen top. He said he would be shipping it in a crate to the closest dock (so most likely Toronto or Mississauga) which isn't that bad of a drive, but he said it would be 8 weeks to build, and up to another 3 before it was ready for pickup. That might be too long of a wait.

I'm not cheap by any means, but I'm only 21. I have university and rent to pay for, so I'm looking to save as much as possible. That being said, I'm also looking to give my guy a great cage that I dont have to worry about him being crowded in. I love the size of the Komodo cage but its pricey.

What would you guys do? Also, should I ask if they can replace one of the glass doors with screen so it at least gets some ventilation/airflow?

Are you set on wanting a glass cage? My advice would be to forget the glass idea, get a nice large screen enclosure. You will have excellent ventilation, it will be a whole lot cheaper to purchase, and a lot lighter to move around.

Cage

Screen is much cheaper and better for your chem!!! I just got a 2x2x4from lll reptiles for $89 plus shipping. I actually got 3 of them

For your panther, I would recommend the X-lg model Reptibreeze or same size cage from DIY or LLL Reptiles.
They are way easier to maintain and R cheaper too ;)

to everybody suggesting screen, i simply cant do it. please just help me chose which of the three glass options you would go with.

i dont want to get into the full explaination, but i'm in a basement apartment, so moisture and temperatures are a huge issue. i simply cant provide what he would need with screen, and i run the risk of moulding my apartment if i'm running a misting system/room humidifier as much as would be appropriate for him. (glancing over at my thermometer, the air temp is currently 18.5 C and the humidity is at a whopping 34%).

This is about normal so please, glass only.

Firstly, there is NOTHING WRONG WITH GLASS. Especially if the humitidy is low (which it likely is in winter for you) in your home or the temperature in the room is too far from the ideal ambient. Most people in europe use glass or wood cages with complete success. Many Canadians also. Screen is a poor choice for many environments.

The exoterra will be too small in the long run. Unless you are going to free-range him a fair bit as well.

The all glass one would need some holes drilled into it on the lower sides or front, to allow a good "chimney effect" ventilation.

There are places (I included a link to one below) that make solid-walled plexi enclosures (plexi is lighter than glass) specifically for chameleons. But I would build my own cage (indeed, I do build my own cages), or get someone to build me one. They are EASY to build.

Wood frame is fine - just seal the wood.
I use pegboard (painted with zero VOC paint to seal) for the back and sides, wide mesh coated wire for the top (lets in lots of UVB, unlike screen), and plexi or acylic for the front (top to bottom) doors.

i let him run around quite a bit. he's usually out running around for a minimum of an hour a day (most days are closer to 3 hours total). he's very friendly and loves to be outside hanging out and exploring.

i'm thinking i'm going to try getting one of the custom cages, still getting 36 long and 48 tall, but would 18-20 be good enough for width? anything bigger just sticks out a bit too much. the extra length should compensate for the slight reduction in width, right? (assuming that the normal accepted size is 24x24x48 and i'm thinking 36x18x48)
