I updated the sad story on my Sambava in a different thread, but short story is that I got up one morning 5 days after I got him and he looked beyond terrible, sunken eyes, very very dark coloring, etc. I tried to rehydrate him in the shower, etc., but he died that afternoon. The only thing Tom and I could think of was that I put an English Ivy topiary in his cage temporarily til his new larger cage came in, and he must have gotten poisoned by that, possibly by the silkworms either munching on the leaves or just by him ingesting some of the leaf that was maybe stuck to the silkworm's legs. It was a horrible death for him and I beat myself up pretty bad about having a plant in there that wasn't on the safe plant list. I looked at Devi'ls Ivy (Pothos) and expanded that in my head to all ivy.
After I regrouped, I purchased a Nosy Be unrelated pair from Tom, and they are both doing great, so it was either that plant or some mysterious sudden illness. The chameleon literally went from looking fine the day before (when I put the silkies in there) to dead the next afternoon. Has that ever happened to anyone else? I hope it never happens to me again....
