My new cham books!

Does anybody have these and/or have any opinions on them? The middle one seems a little outdated but I've only been able to skim them.

Wow - a forum member with books

(please don't take it personally, it's just a reaction to the fact too many here first buy animals, then google a bit about them and then maybe, in some rare cases, invest some $s in good literature)

I am guilty of that unfortunately. We got our little guy thinking he'd be about the same as and other lizard to take care of. As soon as we got home though, we fired up google and found out that we were, well, wrong, lol. He had a very "makeshift" start in our house but 6 months later he is still doing amazing. In fact, I think I've only even seen his "stressed" colors one time.

I would love to find a book specifically on Senegals but they aren't exactly a favorite of cham keepers. I plan on making a mini one for a class project though :D

I think I have the updated version of the first one, but haven't seen the other two. I'm a book nerd as well, and I read everything I can. No harm in going through them, even if they are a bit outdated. It's not like you can never read enough! When you're done reading, let us know what you think of them.

That's a good idea ! A nice page in general about this group would be really great. I will never understand why people house douzens of calyptratus, which are as aggressive as the other members of this genus but no dilepis or senegalensis or gracilis.

I have the two on the left. Masters of Disguise was one of the first chameleon books I owned and although its fairly old, its still worth having for the pictures.

Same here. I bought it when it first came out and STILL love looking at Art Wolf's photos. I knew some of the owners of the animals in there, too, including Magellan on the cover. Even though much of the taxonomy has changed since the early 90's (the author, like most of us, wasn't using Furcifer or Calumma yet) there are some decent species profiles. Keep an eye out for the mislabeled photos. Those are fun. Like the male panther mounting the female Oustalet's in the "panther pair" photo.

i am not familiar with any of those books. go on barnesandnoble website, they have a bunch of good chameleon books. chances are though you'll probably have to special order them. the first and second one look pretty good.:) i have to admit, that WAS a good buy.:D i wish i could find things that cheap....:p

The 3rd book should really be called, "Chameleons and other Lizards" because there's a TON of things in there about chams.

One thing I thought was interesting, in Madagascar, the panther chams are called that because they are so aggressive in the wild. Women are not allowed to handle them and men cannot touch their wives for 3 days after handling one. It considered like crazy bad luck to kill one and taxi drivers will swerve off of roads to avoid hitting them.

I like random fun-facts like that, lol. And the pictures in book 3 are AMAZING
