My New Bearded Pygmy Chams

I purchased these last week from Fl Chams and recieved them today around 10 am, and also had to jump the driver cuz he was bouncing the box around and i told him to please stop or i would report him for mishandling the package and he got a lil bit of an attitude until i told him that it was small pygmy chameleons that was in the box. But anywho the 1.3 group are doing fine. the male is staying a little bit stressed out but is doing fine. Here are some photos of them and over look the poor quality of the pics as my blackberry is a pain in the butt when it comes to taking close up pics. I will also post some pics of them & thier terrarium.

My Fav of the 4 "Stubi" she has a missing foot that was either bitten off when she was younger or had hatched that way. She does very good for a 3 footer and actually climbs onto my hand when i go to fix the reeds in the cage.

They look nice, Michael! Shame about the one but at least she is getting around fine. I would put up a barrier on both sides of the cage so they cant see the other critters. I use cardboard to make barriers because its cheap and easy to cut into the size needed:p

Congrats; they're fun little things! If yours are like mine, expect babies come ~ September (earlier if any of the ladies are gravid).

Speaking of that .... the current substrate in the enclosure will not be acceptable for digging out their pits and laying eggs. You need 3 inches or so of organic soil, peat or coco fiber. The substrate must also be kept pretty damp.
Good luck with them!

I have a large exo-terra bowl full of eco-earth and sand mix. i have the bark due to the orchids which knocks out peat & soil.... I completely redone the cage and they love it and are staying bright colored, roaming around, eating, and as for my handi-cap female, i have her set up in a 5 1/5 gal by herself and she is of coarse the odd ball and climbs onto my shirt sleeve when i was re-arranging a few things and adding some new stuff....

my mal however is just the same but stays hidden more than the girls do...

I will post pics of the new design in the morning as my other lizards are in sleep mode and phone cameras have to have good lighting to get good pics.

Updated Pics of Pygmy Chameleon Set-up.... Also all of them ate this morning asn Stubi diffently got her share of the crickets but i actually held the cup up so she could get em right from it and not have to chase them like the others. Also here is a pic of the Male "Spike"....

I am in shock everyone.... I came home after a nice even out with my partner only to us to come home to find our male Spike dead in the bottom of the cage.... He was doing great all day, night, and this afternoon and then boom he was dead.... I dunno what happened cuz i never handled him except to take him out of the deli cup and put him in the terrarium yesterday... so far the girls are still doing great (fingers crossed)... I still have hopes of them being gravid, but time will only tell... i just watched all 3 of em chowing down on some extra crickets i put in so they could be natural and hunt them down since they are wild caught..... :-( i am now heart broken cuz of Spike...

I'm not familiar with FLChams' policy, but he may be willing to send you another male since he passed so quickly.

Sorry about your loss!

he offered to replace or credit me the Male and the handi-capped female. i am thinking about getting a female carpet from him and a male from Dooley... I dunno yet

Before this post I saw your picture of Spike and I actually wanted to post that Spike wasn't looking so good, after the pictures I read that Spike was already dead. At the pic you can see how his eyes are really falling in his head, that's a sign of sickness.. So he wasn't doing that fine as you thought already.

Ah well, hopefully it will go better next time... Sorry for your loss.

I started looking at the photos and he didnt have normal body shape either.... I will be having another male coming to replace him and plus since Stubi is missing a foot which was an overlooked mistake.. Mike offered to send me another pair out to replacee my male and a female with 4 feet as we dunno if it was genetic or a wound.. But i will be posting pics of the new ones next week when i get them....

Ok, hopefully these will do better ;) keep us updated so we can give tips, it's hard to spot sickness with these tiny guys, but more experienced people might notice some on pictures and we can help :)

I think the two females are either gravid or have just enjoyed a nice crick meal... I will be posting pics of them as soon as these big butt pics upload and i get em resized cuz i have no program to resize em on this computer and thank god for photo bucket lol.... I love my new camera but still playing with it to get better pics...
