My New Baby Veiled Cham!

Hi! I just recently joined the C.F. community and wanted to introduce myself and my new baby veiled cham. He is currently 2 months old and is a wonderful addition to our family. I have owned reptiles my whole life, but just recently decided to attempt to care for a more tropical species such as the veiled chams. One thing I have noticed was that he doesn't eat very much (About 3 crickets a day) and I was wondering if that is too little. I have read that they eat anywhere from 2 to 30 a day but I wanted to get a more solid and true answer from people who own chameleons! Also below in the close up picture of him I was wondering if you can see his ribs too much or if I am just being a paranoid new owner. Any information is much appreciated and I look forward to adding to this wonderful forum! Thank you!

Get rid of the red light my friend :) And very cute! welcome to the forums :) He also does not need a night light, just a day basking and UVB light

Hello, glad you joined us. You have a little sweetie there. Jann has given you all the info you need so I will just jump in with welcome and if I can ever help you sent me a pm and i will do my best.

Thanks

Thank you all so much! That sheet is great and will be very helpful. On the red light I am currently running a repti-sun 10 UVB light 12 hours a day. I am running the red light all the time to provide a basking spot, so is that ok or do I need to change that? Again thanks so much

Check my blog. A 10.0 puts out too much UV for a baby and also unless your house is really cold babies don't need a basking light. If your house is really cold use a regular household bulb 15 or 25 watt.

Re: Thanks

Wow, 1 day on here and you have been more helpful than the local reptile store by far! I have changed the bulb (5.0) and I have lowered the wattage of the basking bulb and plan to turn it off at night now as well (This last week we have had him it has been on at night as well). Like I said before, I really appreciate all the information you guys have provided as I am new to tropical species, especially chams. Sorry if I ask too many questions just want to make sure I am providing the best possible set-up I can for the little guy, and to answer an earlier question his name is mo-mo, as requested by my younger sibilings. I can't wait until his colors pop though, below is a picture of his dad, and boy does he have some amazing colors to him. Thanks again to all for the help!
