Got my new male from Kammerflage Kameleons today! He hatched sometime in September and is a real Chameleon mutt with 50% Ambilobe x 18.75% Ambanja x 12.5% Nosy Be x 12.5% Sambava x 6.25% Maroantsetra. It's been about 4 or 5 years since I've had a baby chameleon and I totally forgot how small they are! and for that matter how small baby crickets are! Big difference between the Water Dragon and Leopard gecko I'm used to.
The cage is also new, I've been working on it for the last month and already I think my best yet. It's approximately 2'x2'x4' and has a divider halfway up so I can use it as a raised baby cage. Unfortunately I've found that my new little boy likes to go in and out of the pvc coated wire mesh which I added to make sure he stays off the screening. I'll have to watch out and make sure he doesn't get stuck when he gets older. I also think I should raise my ReptiSun 5.0 since he likes to climb right under it and would be about an inch from the bulb. My lighting schedule is on from 10am till 8:30pm. Since it's winter here I'm cutting back on the normal 12 hours and because he just went a 3 hour time shift from California to Ohio so I'm starting them a little later in the day.
So far in the first day I've seen him eat 3 small crickets (not dusted yet and about a 1/4 inch long) but I also let a bunch go in the cage in addition to the ones in the 2 feeding dishes. He's drinking from the dripper, moving around a little bit and has pooped. So all in all I think he's doing ok for his first day. I've tried my best to stay away and not watch him to keep the stress to a minimum but I did end up taking a couple pictures...
