My love for Montanes: Jackson Chameleons

Approximately 20 years ago i bought my first Chameleon - it was a Jacksons. It was love at first sight, and from that day i have owned a Chameleon. I've always kept reptiles; mainly turtles up to that point, but as we all know Chams are special.

After my first Jacksons died only after two years, i owed several Veileds- all from Flchams. Average lifespan has been about 7 years-which i think is pretty good. Two weeks ago, my latest Veiled died after 6 long years. Cause of death? Unknown, but it was sudden and he deteriorated within a few days. I'd like to think that his death was due to old age.

Last week i ordered my very first Jacksons Cham- also from Flchams; this was the first time i've had one after my initial introduction into the hobby 20 years ago, so i'm very excited. It almost feels like 'coming home'. I'll post pics soon but he's young and gorgeous. He hasn't fed yet, but he drinks like crazy.

I've always kept my Chams in an enclosure in the basement where it stays relatively cooler than the rest of the house; the Veileds didn't seem to mind the night time drop in temp which can go as low as 50 but i know Jacksons are one of the few species that actually like it cooler and strive on a night time temperature drop.

That's all for now...

Hello, welcome to the forum :) I should have said that before really. It sounds like you have a very good idea what you are doing already of course, but when new people say they have Jacksons I just automatically post up links to things that may be of use.......so here is a video made by another forum member - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lKTbUaOQ0aA
And this could be useful to you too - https://www.chameleonforums.com/blogs/hoj/634-montane-chameleon-care-info.html
Looking forward to your pics - I never had a Jacksons but I think it's what I'll be getting next (after Veiled eggs hatch and that madness is all done with :)).

i am amazed at how much less my jackson eats than my veiled.
i suppose it makes sense, lower temps and all.
it is probably a little more than half the amount.

Congrats on returning to your dream species, they really are great. And they tend to have such docile dispositions, too, they are just so nice to keep.

Thanks everyone, and thanks for the link DavidBuchan.

And yes, it is pleasantly surprising how docile they are. All the years of keeping Veileds; i'm so used to Chameleons hissing, gaping and trying to bite me!

Haha, I guess I've been lucky with my Veileds even though they never really want to come out and play :D
I like your avatar picture....I'm guessing you drew it yourself?

Yay, another Jackson owner! I love my little male to bits. Jacksons are so laid back, gentle and friendly! I look forward to seeing pics of your new chamleon! :D

Wow, thats awesome! Congrats! I just started the hobby with a baby veiled, but my next goal when I become more experienced with Chams would be a Jackson! It would be especially nice 'cause the Jackson wouldn't mind a large temperature drop at all since I live in Canada (aka land of freeze)
Again Congrats!:)

Sorry for the quality of the pics. My enclosure is pretty well planted, so i had to take him out of the enclosure. Once on my hand he...well, lets just say he doesn't like being picked up. These are the best shots i could get.

Oh, by the way, i saw him wolf down his first cricket today! I'm sure he's been eating all along, since he's pooped every day but today i actually saw it!:)
