my chameleon loves incense and BB King

hi! my cham loves it when i burn incense (i can tell bec whenever i light it he turns bright green and yellow). he also loves it when i play the blues on my guitar. he also turns bright colors when i play. anyone else expeirence that type of thing with your cham

I don't know about incense, I should try it out.

Not me, but he likes it when i rub his shoulders when he just hangs out on my lap watching tv. Some people might tell you that the incense and smoke might cause a URI or other respiratory problem, but if he seems happy and there isnt a whole lot of smoke near him that sounds cool. What scent are you burning btw? you should take a picture of him and his pretty colors when hes in chill mode

I would have to think that incense could be detramental to a Cham... URI is not fun to deal with... I try to keep the air in my Cham room as clean as possible. I would think that smoke would definately be bad... but I could be wrong.

Hahahaha. I dont know about my chams but I sure like it when I put on some heavy metal.

I WOULD NOT use incense, candles, cigaretts, pot, crack, or anything else that smokes around my cham.

Seriously it isnt good. Even candles that dont put of smoke still put of hazardous fumes. Dont take it the wrong way I am not trying to be an ass but please dont burn them. .

i have an airfilter in my room, a fan and my room is about the size of an apartment, SERIOUSLY. also the incense is all the way across the room. they are strawberry gonesh cones.

You say your cham likes the incense... Therefore I assume he is exposed to it... and that is not good. I am paranoid sometimes, and overly cautious, but this just doesn't sound good. The fact that he changes colors to these enviromental changes would worry me even more. That means that these things, neither of which are natural occurances for them, are having some kind of effect on them... And I would be willing to bet the color change is more stress related, not trying to be a jerk, But music and air quality are 2 things that can easily stress out a cham. Often times we humans like to think of our Chams as little people in Cham bodies... what may appear to us as "aww they like it" could mean the exact opposite. Trust me... This won't be the only sacrifice to be made for your chams...

Chamman, like I said I wasnt trying to be an ass. Its just not safe. Think of how much we put into our chams just trying to make it that much like home for them. We cant even perfect this hence having to supplement, artificial uvb some or most of the time, etc. Its not natural for them to have that. I to am a musician but band practice and anything electric is out to the garage for me. Not saying to stop playing guitar around them but they do feel vibrations. I would worry about the incense a lot more than the music. I am surprised that no one say "higher up" has commented on this.

Again just like Joe. I respectfully say this. So do you write your own music, are you in a band, I would like to check it out if so.

I assume this was a joke? Chams are functionally deaf to pretty much all but very low frequency sound.

Chameleons don't hear well, but they can hear some sounds. Softschools.com reports that they can pick up sounds that fall in the frequency range between 200 and 600 Hz. Not too bad for a reptile who doesn't have ears or the traditional hearing equipment that other animals have. Considering that the normal range of the human voice starts at the top end of that scale -- 500 Hz, according to Cardiff School of Computer Science and Informatics -- that means your chameleon can pick up at least some of the words you say.

I think they can hear a guitar for sure! and probably feel the vibrations thats so cool!

Let's take a moment to put ourselves in the chameleons place for a min. You're a creature that lives in shrubs and trees who in nature, one of the things you may have to avoid for survival are brush fires, of which one of the first alarms to flee is the noxious smoke produced by said fire. Now imagine you're confined in an enclosure and it fills with, what to you is, the noxious fumes of smoke from impending death. And that's just psychologically, not to mention how physically inflammatory any kind of smoke can be to lung tissue. Even large fauna including humans instinctively flee smoke to gain fresh air.

Also, I'm sure they can pick up bits and pieces of whatever has a low enough frequency, but I'm pretty sure softschools.com is not a leading authority on chameleons to be cited.
