geez- another lizard that eats waxworms and refuses other insects and then has problems.
Sorry to hear it.
Every couple of years I am approached by someone who has a waxworm problem- usually the owner has a leopard gecko, but it can happen to any lizard.
Is your lizard underweight yet?
If not, I'd say let him get hungry for a few days, continue to water him, and then offer him crickets.
Repeat every couple of days. When he gets hungry he should eat, unless he has another health issue.
Once he's eating crickets wait a month or two before giving him waxworms again, and then only feed him a couple every couple of weeks as a treat so he doesn't hold out for them.
You might also try a little fruit baby food like peaches.
If he likes that you can try crested gecko food as well as continue trying to get him onto crickets.
