On the day after Christmas, I went into my reptile room to feed and water my crew. Dubia roaches were on the breakfast menu. I reached into my female Hoehnelii's enclosure to slip breakfast into her feeding cup. I noticed something moving around in her feeding cup. Thinking it was a left over feeder, I took a look and found a baby Hoehnelii! I searched the rest of her enclosure (as did my 17 year old daughter) and found no other babies - alive, dead or stillborn.
My question is: How common is it for chameleons give birth to a single baby and is it possible that my female is still carrying more babies?
Also, I have two very pregnant-looking Mt. Meru repeat mama's. They both came to me gravid: one over a year ago and the other this past August. My question is for those of you that have actually bred and birthed Mt. Meru chameleons -- How long is the typical pregnancy? I know the exact date the older girl mated but I think the younger one may be gravid from retained sperm. How common is it for a Mt. Meru to give birth due to retained sperm?
Thanks!
