Mt. Meru eating like a dog???

I recently picked up a Mt Meru Jacksons(wc). His health seems to be fine. One thing i've noticed is when he eats, he rarely throws his tongue (Ive seen him throw it twice -successfully-) but for the most part, when he's hungry, he walks over to his prey and tries to grab it -like a dog-Many times, the insect will escape. Is this common behaviour?

Its not normal that they don't throw their tongues out fully to get an insect. Tongue issues like that can be the result of an injury, dehydration, an infection or a calcium issue.

Thanks. I doubt it's dehydration. He seems to be drinking alot. Calcium issues or infection are a possibilty. He will be getting a check up shortly (next week)- I just got him last week and he's wc so I want to make sure everything is good.
