Mouth Rot Problem (Urgent, Please Read)

I have a female Nosy be and she's really been concerning me lately. She's about 6-8 months old. About 18 days ago I took her to the vet because her bottom lip wasn't quite flush with the top. I suspected mouth rot and the vet confirmed it. She said this case isn't too bad but its also not good, implying she seen worse. Upon leaving I was prescribed an antibiotic to give her every other day, the vet also insisted I should dilute iodine and swab her mouth with it. I then bought some Betadine and have been diluting that. After the vet visit and beginning the treatment is when she started sleeping during the day, which I would say was about three days ago. Before all of this she was really active and still feeding well, what could be happening? I am really worried about her and would like some input/feedback from your experiences, please do so soon. Also the vet said there didn't seem to be anything else wrong with her and that she was the right weight.

Are you leaving lights on at night?

What lights are you using on her?

I'm no expert but if I were in your situation a few things would be going through my mind:

1) possible side effects from the medication?
2) resting = recovering from her condition?
3) stress from the medicating, unless you usually handle her on a normal basis and she's used to it.

I'd think of it like when people are sick. We usually what: medicate and sleep right? I don't often feel hungry when i'm sick, but be sure to hydrate at least, and all I want to do is sleep. Let's face it... medications don't usually taste good either.

This is just my theory of possibilities. I would def keep her hydrated though. Hopefully someone with more experience can either correct or confirm this. gluk!

When chameleons are medicated, they don't sleep.

meds don't cause them to sleep. its not how they are programmed.

If a cham is sleeping during the day, something is wrong.

While the meds im sure are taking its toll on the cham, it wouldn't make it sleep.

Camimom: No, since I've had her the lights have probably been left only a couple of time times and not any time recently. The lights I am currently using are the Reptisun 5.0 fluorescent bulb and a 60 watt heat bulb

I've also read somewhere that too much iodine in a chameleon could harm it, could I not be diluting the betadine well enough and thus having an affect on her?

louiss mouth rot

I hope by now shes better..I was tokd never to feed wax worms..thas all I know about this disorder..did you happen to feed her wax worms im really curious because when my Rango Jr Cham nosey be I did and he went into a starvation diet for 3 weeks brought to vet also but didnt ever really find out what was wrong except he had those wax worms.

Wax worms don't cause mouth rot. Completely not true.

I think you are thinking about butter worms. Several owners have reported reactions from butter worms, but I've not heard of any reactions to wax worms.

Chameleon - Female Nosy Be, I've had her for about seven months (I'm not sure how old she was when I got her, maybe two months so she could be 8-9 months)
Handling - Not often at all, ever since I got her she was aggressive
Feeding - I've fed her crickets, mealworms, super worms, wax worms, grain beetles and even have a dubia colony but she doesn't seem to like roaches. I typically feed the insects a mixture of fruits and greens and some "roach food" mixture, they seem to like it
Supplements - I use Zoomed repticalcium with D3, Exo terra brand calcium without D3, and Zoomed reptivite with D3. As far as schedule I give her calcium (no D3) every other day and the D3 products at least twice a month
Watering - I use the Mist King which is programmed to go off every three hours for One and a half minutes. I do see her drink.
Fecal Description - I haven't seen her poop recently but have seen her eat, the last I saw it looked just fine, and no shes never had a fecal exam.
History - She's been sleeping with some of her legs of the branch, is this normal?
Cage Info:
Cage Type -Screen: 18x18x36
Lighting - I use a 60 watt heat bulb and a 5.0 fluorescent bulb by reptisun. The lighting isn't programmed but usually go on before the afternoon, the basking light get turned off at around 6-7 and lights go out around 8-9
Temperature - The basking area is ususally 80-90 and the lowest I've seen the bottom of that cage at (recently because I raised temperature) 65-70
Humidity - What are your humidity levels? How are you creating and maintaining these levels? What do you use to measure humidity?
Plants - Ficus
Placement - On a table in my room
high traffic areas? No
Location - I live in New Mexico.

As far as supplementing - I would honestly just toss the calcium with d3 because you are using a vitamin with d3. You don't want to over so D3 and accidentally poison them.

As far as a possible respiratory infection - hold your chams rib age by your ear and listen to their breathing, let us know if you hear any wheezing, crackling, popping, or really any noise.

I didn't hear anything, she was a bit more active today as well.
