It takes them time to settle when you first get them .Leave him alone as much as possible. Only do things you need to in the cage.If this still continues then a vet visit is in order

Is this opening of the mouth a common thing? The little man has just started doing this today, he's, I'might be guessing but he is approx 4 months old. I have just bought a new ceramic basking light, I binned the red light thing the shop gave me after reading up on the best basking lights? I have listened for popping when breathing and looked in his mouth, it looks nice and pink, no brown sticky. He would eat like a pig, if he had his way. But he is favouring calci worms, we are having a battle of wills at the moment I want him to eat the crickets as wel as they have been gut loaded. My percerverance has paid off he ate 3 today and has had some calci worms. His basking area went up to 90 when the ceramic went in, even though the thermostat was set at 86 so I reduced the thermostat His enclosure is 4 ft high X 3 ft wide X 2ft deep. I spray him with warmish water regularly. He will be going to the vet tomorrow unless i am completely over reacting. It's bed time now for him now lights are off and the temps dropping I have checked him and the mouth opening has stopped. I am fretting because i read other posts and now i have mouth rot or resportary infection racing through my head. Sorry about any grammar errors iv'e just has a quick operation and am a bit spaced out. I hope some one can calm this crazy woman down. Thanks Jane x

In your case it may have just been to hot. From @Matt Vanilla Gorilla care sheet panthers 9 months or younger should be basking around 82 deg or below and bottom of the cage 72 or higher.

That's what I was hoping, I put my new bulb in and temp went through the roof. Them ceramics a bloody hot. I will probably take him to the vet for a quick check over, but thank you, at least i will sleep tonight.

Day and night Diming night eye habistat. I had a red heat lamp, but I heard it stressed them out so I went for a 100 watt ceramic. I have an Arcadia 5 % uvb lamp. I had the set up done by a reptile specialist. It's cold round these parts so we had make sure the heater would maintain a decent temp. It's all set up to control the temps day and night. He was doing ok till I got the ceramic, I think it's that efficient it just shot the temp up.

He's defiantly stopped mouth opening.it feels weird fiddling his temps, I'm scared he will get too cold, listen can I ask you something else? He has grown and has shedded he's got a few black splodges on him tonight? Is that normal? I know they change colour etc and he's probably maturing. I've Googled it but i can't find the exact splodges he's got.. tell me to get lost if you want but he's my babe

Don't worry, mine did the same thing when I first got him, he needs time and quiet also it could be that it's just a habit I heard they do a lot of WIERD things from time to time.....

Thanks i am starting to get that feeling, He's gone back to normal now, and normal colourations. I think he's just trying to give me heart failure.

Sorry I forgot to update guys!
Gringo is fine the opening mouth is just because he's cooling down! He's doing great he's eating lots drinking and very active toohere he is this morning greeting me before I went to work!

MIne did that for a few weeks, he seems OK.
I have been meaning to get some antibiotics proactively though for when he inevitably needs them so I am glad you reminded me. If I find a good broad spectrum antibiotic with a very long shelf life I will post back for you. This time of year when the temps outside are 9 degrees or so I think it makes sense to keep some on-hand because a trip to the vet would be difficult and stressful.
