More cage questions?

I am sorry in advance for my questions. I am sure most of the people that have used this forum for a long time must be getting tired of the same questions all the time. With that said I have spend hours reading past posts.
My son Samuel who is 11 wanted a chameleon. Me being the mother LOL must find out all the proper info. "Our" veiled chameleon is a female and she is 8 weeks old.
I also when the pet store route and as I am sure many of you did the same and bought things that are not the best of a Chameleon. I will be taking out the waterfalls in the morning.
We bought a Exo Tera Glass Terrarium (pet store said you can not keep a chameleon in a mesh cage because it gets to cold in the winter and is too hard to regulate the heat????) As Cammy our little chameleon is only young I am sure I can keep her in the Glass Terrarium for now. It is 24x18x18.

I have looked at a Exo Terra Flexarium Screened Cage. 100gallon. the size is 30x16x48. We only have one pet store in town. The next town over has a store that sells Chameleons, but they gave us the same advise.... use a glass cage and have a waterfall.

I am not a handy person so I do not want to make her a cage. I want to buy one. Is there another brand besides Exo Terra that I can look at. Is 30x16x48 going to be big enough for Cammy when she is full grown. Is there another size that is better.
Cammy seems to be doing fine. She is eating about 8 crickets a day but sadly she has been drinking from the waterfalls. She really is moving around in her cage.
I am really confused about cages? Also do the creened cages have places on top for say the digital themo wire? I love Cammy but I sure do not want crickets getting out.
Thanks for reading this.
Debbie

Females can be kept 2'x2'x36" or 2'x2'x4' if I am correct.

Yeah thats acceptable size for housing male and female (adult).

Do you have all the necessary set-ups for your chameleon? Here is a link for chameleon sheets: I used it as a reference

I do not support the use of waterfalls, standing waters do promote bacterial growth. I personally mist my chameleon 3 - 5x a day. Hope this helps.

thank you for the websites. I hope my vieled will be ok in the glass house for a few months? does anyone know if this will be ok until she grows some before I get a screen cage for her.

Tried her on mealworms but she did not like them. I spray her three times a day.. She really hisses when I spray her cage. We have handled her once a day for three days now and at first she is not too happy but once she is in our hand she seems to be fine.
Thanks for your help

should be fine in a glass tank for a month or two i guess. I usually place them in a screen cage when they are over 2 months old. This is because glass tank limits air flow, and stale air are breeding ground for bacteria. In the long run, upper respiratory infection might occur.

Possibly you can try to mist the enclosure instead of directly onto her.

I think I found the cage that I am going to purchace for my female veiled. It is 24x24x48 It is made by Bluebeast Reptile. Has anyone purchased one of these? I would be interested if you like it and what the pro and cons are of this brand. Thanks Maganda and Pohchunyee for the websites.

Hi, I purchased a screen cage from tylor and I do love it. I also wanted to see what the difference is so I purchased one from ebay same size 18"x18"x36".

The one on the left if from Bluebeast and the one on the right is from ebay.

I like the cage from Bluebeast (Tylor) because it has a rubber door handle which makes it more easy to open.

Cage on the right purchased from ebay

I really can't find anything bad about it.

Thanks for the info. I will check and see if they ship to Canada and if so I will buy one for Cammy. Thanks

Tyler do ship to Canada but you need to buy at least 5 and i quote

"We can ship internationally with a minimum of 5 cages purchased. E-mail for pricing. Additional shipping charges will apply"

Since you are in Canada, lets see if i can find some link for Canadian Chameleon Breeder

Welcome to the forum Debbie.

You said..."We bought a Exo Tera Glass Terrarium (pet store said you can not keep a chameleon in a mesh cage because it gets to cold in the winter and is too hard to regulate the heat????) As Cammy our little chameleon is only young I am sure I can keep her in the Glass Terrarium for now. It is 24x18x18."...I have just purchased a couple of these to try them out. I live in Canada too and have experimented with quite a few different setups over the years that I have been keeping chameleons. In the beginning I used aquariums and cages that were mostly wood. I still keep the babies I hatch in aquariums (long low ones with screen lids) until they are about 3 months old. The adult cages that I have been using (mainly) for the last few years have screen lids and fronts...the rest is glass. I still find it difficult to keep the temperature and the humidity up in these.

In case you haven't found these sites yet...they have good information...

I use reptarium also. A few suggestions if you go with those..

-Use velcro and hot glue to mount things like light hoods and misting nozzles.
-Use fishing wire to hang plants
-Use more lighting and deeper penetrating UVB bulbs like the 10.0. It can appear really dark from the outside.
