Mistking reservoir musky smell

So today I noticed my one water reservoir had a bit of a musky smell to it. Everything looks clean and it doesn't have that slimy bacteria in it. Still plan to clean it out with vinegar and a steamer though. Was thinking, do any of you aerate your water? I did this for my saltwater when I had aquariums. Would this keep the RO water more fresh and reduce buildup of anything? My reservoir is a large, 40 gallon brute trash can. I have another 15 gallon reservoir for my Panthers which has never smelled, so not sure what the difference here is. Maybe because this one isn't airtight and the 15g is....

Anyway would like to hear your thoughts, experiences, etc

I used a coolbox before and never had a problem with that.
I now use a 17gal tub that's normally used for mixing cement but don't have it long enough to notice a problem yet.
I also just use good ol Dutch tabwater instead of RO.

I do think it may be benefitial to have it aerate even if it's just to keep the water moving... So maybe add a small pump in the bin to create a waterflow?

@Remkon I was thinking maybe a little pump/bubbler would help. Only reason I'm using a 40g brute is because my parson's goes through it so fast. I fill it like every week and a half.

Yea, I got the big tank because I dont wanna have to roll out the gardeninghose every day and eventho it's kinda a glass tank I still want to mist my panther plenty... Good thing it drains into the backyard ( and into the shed as I still have a leak somewhere )
Filling it once a week works great.

Think I'll add a small pump to it too, it can only be bemefitial really.

Nice to have it drain outside. The way my drainage is set up, it'd be terrible trying to manually do it. So I have a fountain pump turn one once a week and empty my bin into the backyard as well.

Anyway, I had a spare powerhead laying around so I'll just toss that into the water and see if that helps. Like you said, definitely wouldn't hurt.
