I have a home made system that has NEVER caused me any trouble.. so whoever gave you the idea that a home grown system isn't reliable of 'safe' or clean or whatever.... can eat my shorts lol. It can only be as reliable or safe or clean or whatever.. as you make it.
I use HerpMist nozzles and joints. I like the entire system Jason (herpmist) offers... I just don't use it all lol.

I use both pro mist and rainmaker products.
All the pumps are very similar, the nozzles are a little different.
Promist nozzles are much more complicated inside with metal parts, and create a very fine "floating" mist that is good for infusing humidity in the air, but difficult to control where it goes since some mist will float out of the cage.
Herpmist\mistking\rainmaker nozzles are very similar.. ever so slightly larger droplets, and easier to control spray, but not quite as fine of mist.
I mostly use the mist king\ herpmist style for long drinking sessions, and the pro-mist nozzles for keeping humidity up. The cool thing is all this stuff is interchangeable, so buy a few nozzles from each company and try them out
On a side note, I just bought one of the ART-DNe timers and came up with a great setup. You can use 2 timers to control one mist pump if you do some handy re-wiring with extension cords. I now have an ART controlling the mist system pump...going off once and hour for a few seconds to add humidity, and a second regular wall timer controlling the same pump going off once a day for about 35 minutes. Awesome!
