Misting System Census and Poll

As I Sink deeper and deeper (I don't know if sink is a good way to put it) into the world of the Cham care, I am finding that the more things that I can do to automate things the happier my marriage and son will be. That being the case I had a few questions:

1. What are the different types of Misting systems available? What is the aprox cost for starter set? and what is included?

2. How much water ends up out side of the cage?

3. If you "Magyver'ed" your misting system would you share your design?

Thanks just taking a brief poll...and trying to decide how much more money to spend:D

herpmist is a great system and worth the $. under $150 for single cage setup. i use a few paper towels in my cage and replace every other day to catch excess water.

you can, and many people have rigged their own system, but when it comes down to it, its either save a few bucks and potentially have wet problems(i dont mess with water inside my apartment, i need something reliable.) or spend a few extra bucks and have ease of mind, low maintanance, reliable misting system.

I use promist and I love it. I think around $160 for a starter setup that comes with two nozzles.

When I bought a misting system, the hobby became instantly easier. I work every day and sometimes I'm gone on weekends.

I have two nozzles at the top of the cage that go off about 5 or so times a day for a minute or two each.

Two of my 4 screen sides are lined with a clear heavy sheet of plastic that runs down into a drip pan, made from a rabbit cage bottom. These sheets prevent moisture from spraying back through the screen. The drip pan is also the bottom of the cage. The cage lifts right up off of the pan, it's only resting on it. A single hole is drilled in the bottom of the pan and the cage sits on a plastic corrogated shelf, so the drips drip through to a rubbermaid bin below the cage. All that nastiness is covered up by sliding piece fo black gator board, as the cage sits recessed into my office closet. So it looks nice and presentable, I slide the gator board to one side to reveal the pump system, the water resevoir, tubes and a rubbermaid drip catcher etc.

It works great. And in my house it also has to look good. I'm not into messy looking cages. It should be presentable like a zoo.

The feeders are now more work then the cham.

I have a promist and it makes life alot easier. No more watering all the cages everyday a couple of times a day. All I have to do now is fill the water container every few days. It literally went from 40 minutes a day to seconds of watering per week. If you dont have one, get one.

OK 2 to 2 promist vs herpmist....I have also heard a few people talk about mist king also...I am hoping that his thread goes a lot further that this..:p

A weekend.......LOL, I can leave for a week+ and not worry...My resevoir is a 5gal sparklets style bottle. I only have to mess with water once a month.........PROMIST RULES!!!

Mistking

i love my MistKing system! Great system, great quality..easy to set up..not a single leak..im happy.. :) I spent a pretty penny to set up for 6 + cages($300 for 6 delux nozzels, pump capable of hosting 20, parts, tubing and accessories)when it was all said and done, it was well worth it..after i set up a draining system for my cages i have to say, all in all it was the best investment ive made in my chameleon money pit endeavor..:)

i will be picking mine up shortly, im still not decided. but the mistking is the one the reptile guys at pets inc like and prefer, they have thers hooked up to a 6 gallon tank misting 6 enclosures.

so mistking is the only thing i have seen in action, looked like a great system.

I have a Herpmist with 4 nozzles. I think it was around $270 new with all the extras I got tube cutter adapters and timer.

saves me alot of time about 2.5 hours a day that I would have to be standing over the cages misting them. I use tub to catch and water that leaks out. Then every couple of day I use a 7 gallon shop vac to suck the water out of the tubs.

I have herpmist, and I love it. I used to hand mist and use a drip-system, but now I would never concider that.

From the looks of the websites herpmist and mistking are basically the same. Promist looks a little different, but equally good. I don't think you can go wrong with any of the 3. I think when i bought mine herpmist was having a special or was a little cheaper for some reason.

For catching the water, my chameleon cage is sitting in a super tub with a drain in one corner. The drainage goes down into a 3 gal water container that I take outside and water plants with when it gets close to full.

im not sure about promist, but herpmist and mistking have similar pumps, they are whisper quiet. i get more noise from my water line vibrating against cage than the pump itself. about as loud as you tapping your finger on a desk; ambient noise is usually louder.

herpmist 5
promist 3
mistking 2

:p
Hmmm this is taking longer than expected...Thanks everyone and keep on voting.
