Memnoch

Ok, everyone else is posting pics of their Uroplatus so here's a thread for my first. He's Memnoch, the Uroplatus phantasticus that Ryan and Chad picked out for me. So far so good. I saw him chowing down on some little crickets last night so I felt safe taking him out for a little bit of handling and camera time. His orange wasn't blazing like it was when he first got here, though. Maybe it's a daytime thing?

I am not Kent but...... yes that is the standard adult size. I have seen the babies (newborn) and they are super small. Imagine eggs that are the size of a pea and then a baby coming out of that. The u. ebenaui look incredibly similar but they are only the slightest bit bigger in the body and their tails are little spears (i.e. "spearpoint leaftail").

Memnoch the devil. Great name! great series of books.

Well, I don't think I'd quite call myself a fan of Anne Rice but I did read the first 5 books in the Vampire Chronicles up to "Memnoch, The Devil" and loved them. The Memnoch story was really, really good though. I tried to read a few of her other popular books but just couldn't get into them in the same way.

I wish. Nope. I've got more u. phantasticus, u. ebenaui and u. pietschmanni coming. I am/have been full to the gills right now with the bigger ones (i.e. u. lineatus and u. fimbriatus) and also u. sikorae. I believe the only uroplatus that I haven't been working with is u. henkeli (of the more commonly kept). I have been especially fond of the phants and ebenaui and so I have been trying to really step my the breeding of those. Don't say that. Also if all of you would quit teasing me with the fantastic gecko's that would be good. They are so cool looking. If I get more reptiles I may have to kill me and not wait for hubby to do it.

I see a skinny little leg with little sticky toes holding on and a little "dead leaf"! LOL Very cute!

Just a question on a different animal- Do you still have your deremensis outside? I want to put mine outside, but its been getting down in the low 50's

HA HA!! I love it when they do that! My egg-laying female constantly has her right-hind leg sticking way out behind her when she's tucked under a leaf. I just look for the knee cap.

Hi Tylene! Yep, since I've had the pair they've probably spent a combined total of less than 96 hours indoors. I've really only brought them in when I was afraid heavy winds could be a problem. I barely fed them at all for a while, as has been recommended with this species, but now that it's warming up they're eating every other day. Unfortunately my "rare" orange female seems to be in the process of changing back to green, though.
