Hola,

i'm pretty new to the forum but i have a few reptiles inc beardies and snakes.

This is my new addition to the family she's a 10week old senegal.

so far she's a little shy of me but i'm sure she will warm up soon enough.

Her habititat is lacking a few real plants at the moment but she seems happy enough in there. got a constant dripping system in place and all the lights are on timers.

Here she is :)

p.s just noticed she's a bit dark in the photo. Thats because i'd just put her in the viv and she was a bit scared (first time in the new viv).

Welcome to the site!

Can you get a better picture; I think that is a Veiled Chameleon not a Senegal Chameleon.

Welcome to the forums! I figure you have noticed that most reptiles differ from species to species and chameleons are a great example of this. It looks like you have a great start to a very nice chameleon enclosure. I would recommend filling out this so we can make sure your on the right track.

That is a wonderful looking little fellow you have there. I would though say by looking at the crest on its head that you could possibly have a young Veiled. Its probably just due to the angle but it looks a bit pointier than a Senegal. I own a Senegal myself and have been working on a basic care and information page through my blog postings on this forum. You might check it out to compare enclosure info.

Again, welcome!

Thanks for the replies :)

i'll have to get a better picture tonight when i get in from work. i'll try to get a higher resolution and a few so you can have a look at the species. I was told that it was a senegal when i bought her but they may have been mistaken. It would be nice to know though :)

Thanks for the information i will fill out that sheet and make sure i'm on the right track. I wouldnt want her to be mistreated in any way.

Her tank is a little bland at the moment but i do have a ficus on the way for her to hide in. I'm hoping the set up meets her needs.

A question i do have which may be answered after i fill the sheet in is, how long should i mist her for? i have installed a lucky lizard rain system in her tank with the drip and rain which i have on a timer. I so far have this running twice a day for 5 minutes is that long enough?

Thanks again.

Yes, that is long enough to run the mister. You could maybe add one more misting per day which will help bring up the humidity and provide water again for her to drink.

Thanks :) i know she's gorgeous hehe. :D. I do love cumbria i love all of the mountains and lakes. Great place to chillax.

Any idea's on if she is veiled or senegal? :)

She finally came to my hand as well last night which was a nice change.

Ahh cool :) well most people are saying veiled so i assume thats what she is. It is very cool when she first came was nice to know she is warming up to me :) unlike the dragon that always wants attention.

Geordie land :) i'm through there every now and again mostly to shop or when i get bored on a night and decide to drive over haha. Last time i was there was for a stag party for a friend.

I'm going to say Veiled too. Most Senegal Chameleons are wild caught and for various reasons (poor survival rate, inexpensive, not flashy) have rarely been bred in captivity. Having a captive bred Veiled as your first chameleon is the better option as they are hardier and there is far more information out there for the species.

I skimmed over your other thread and Kinyongia has given you some excellent links to Veiled and chameleon care in general. I won't repeat them here.

Have fun with her and welcome to the addiction. :D
Cheers,
Trace

Yea that a Veiled Chameleon not a Senegal Chameleon. Senegals dont have casques or pronounced markings. Your better off with this Veiled though. It will make a much easier pet.

Hello and welcome to chameleon ownership. i hope you are not unhappy to have that cute little veiled instead of a Senegal. The good side of the mistake is that your veiled will most likely live a lot longer than a wild caught senegal would. Think of all the extra fun times ahead.:D

Congratz on geting her shes cute I cant wait to get mine:D cheers to long life and good health!

Thanks :) i'm happy that she is a veiled there is a lot more to read up on them :)

She is my little cutie. So active at the moment as well.

Thanks for all the positive replies :)
