Good luck! It does seem odd he got that bad that fast. and i dont think skipping 4 dustings would do that.

I mean, the fact his front legs are the way they are could prove that he managed to damage his front legs by another means... It's so hard to believe the little fella' would develop MBD in such a way after a few days without supplementation, though I guess it could be possible. He looks fine otherwise so it's a bit shocking.

thats why im so confused!!!! his front left leg is the worst but his right leg is getting there. all the vets are closed till tomorrow. All of this just seems like a bad dream. ive been feeding him crix dusted with calcium. he will open his mout if he sees them by his face and will chew and swallow them. IDK if he can shoot his tongue, he did yesterday but i like the assurance he is eating by hand feeding.

I am sorry you are having this problem, I have a Cham with it so I do know what you are going thru. Blood test/ maybe xrays, talk to the Vet. Calcium injections work wonders if you are comfortable weigh that, otherwise he will suggest an oral calcium.
I am going to say something that I will get alot of flak about....
I have spoken to my breeder many times about the medical issues I see here time and time again. They are really surprised when it comes to the supps directive that is common in the forums. I can send you their sched that they have perfected over the past 30plus years of breeding if you like. It is much different than you are used to hearing. I used it, and my chams are strong and healthy. With the exception of the rescue.

thatd be great. so how bad does ur have it? my guuy is having trouble using his front legs and im owrried if he gets treated that he wont be able to regain use of his legs.

He had lost his ability to grip, fell alot, and had that "shaky, I can't hold myself up" . He did not however have any signs of bone deformity. I took him to the vet because of his gait/falling. I had only had him 24 hr when I noticed it.

well called 3 vets and they are all closed today. ive been holding him all day long and has showed me some awesome coloring that he has never shown outside his cage but in a calm way. he is no longer hissing and has gotten used to being hand fed and watered. so hopefully if i can get him into the vet tomorrow he should start to make a recovery. i just hope 1 out of the 3 vets know something about chams or MBD for that matter, they advertise exotic and reptile knowledge but you all know how that goes :/
Although it takes time for the bones to weaken the symptoms (curved arms, etc.) can appear suddenly.

The fastest way to correct it is for a vet to give the chameleon injections of calcium until the blood calcium levels are high enough to give it a shot of calcitonin which draws the calcium rapidly back into the bones.

Although its important IMHO to dust with calcium at most feedings, bone health also is maintained by having the nutrients in balance...so its not only the calcium that is the problem.

calcium w/o d3 every other feeding and calcuim with d3 and herptivite vitamins 2x a month. and gutloaded crix ,super, and mealworms.
You said..."would liquid calcium be a good investment?"...you should be able to get calcium sandoz liquid or calcium gluconate liquid at a pharmacy. When you give it to the chameleon, be careful to only ease it into its mouth a bit at a time so it won't be aspirated...its kind of syrupy.

UPDATE: well i got him to the vet and he was positive for mbd but nowhere near as bad as others she has seen. Due to the mbd he has small fractures in all four limbs and a compound fracture is his front leg. She gave him a calcium shot and gave me some carnivore care and some dewormer for pinworms that showed up in a fecal. She assured me that in time he will make a full / next to full recovery with possible limited mobility in his front leg but other than that she said he was looking great.
As for the cause she seemed certain that he had developed MDB even before my care and that my UVB light was too far away to recive the proper amount through the screen. She recomends no-body use house bulbs for heat and yelled at me for it and recommends a Powersun bulb for heat and ubv on one side of the tank, with a second 5.0 on the other side so even when basking or not he will recive the propper amount of UVB. She also said to use the multivitamin and D3 once a week along with normal calium on every other feeding.
Any ideas or comments about her care any of you disagree with? Im just trying to widen my options. THANKYOU FOR ALL THAT HELPED i will post some pictures in a few weeks if wanted to keep track of em, as for now hes not lookin his best but still has alot of life left in him :]

Not going to argue with a vet here but we can only go by our successes that we have from our experiences. Many(most) members on here who have had chameleons live long and happy, healthy lives use housebulbs for UVA. So if it works and our chameleons are thriving, then why wouldn't we? The Powersun gives both UVA and UVB and I personally would not add that in addition to the 5.0 under normal circumstances. If we have members on here keeping chameleons for 5, 6 7 years etc and use ONE 5.0 why we would add another? What I am trying to say here, is maybe your situation is different because your chameleon is having issues. It is proven on this forum that one Reptisun 5.0(when replaced periodically) and one ordinary white housebulb of varying wattages, depending on house temps, geographic location etc. WORK. Glad your cham is doing better and hope he continues to do so!
