Masoala

Your guy is very nice, but looks very much like a young tamatave to me. Where did you get him? Take a look at Pardalis.be, The masoala on there is the best ive seen.

EDIT EDIT: Every picture I find also show's Masoala panthers with a feint blue as a tint across the top spine into the face... It's the Nosy Borahas that show grey bodies more

That is how mine is.. blue spine, white lateral line, red/maroon body and dark bars.
Tamataves dont have the blue spine. They are though, a ver close locality and sometimes get confused.

If you get a your hands on one, let me know. My Masoala looks similar to the one pictured above (mine has maroon rather than green though) and I would like to see one fired up.
 
Well, mine were collected from the mainland, cap est on the Masoala peninsular. Nosy Boraha come from the Island near by. It is possible that us Europeans are all wrong and these cant be classified as Masoala but i find this unlikely. Try to find pics of them, I bet there arent many out there. I would take a stab in the dark too and say that i dont think anyone has them in the US. Show me pics if im wrong! :)

Also, without trying to turn this into an argument, Only a few months ago you were asking what was the difference between Nosy Faly and Ambanja so I think perhaps your confused about this one too. Yours looks a lot like a nosy radama i had until recently, ill post a pic up later so you can see what i mean. Its too pink to be tamatave and not green enough to be like the mainstream Masoala i see on here all the time.

Also, check out cleanline chameleons, they have cap est on their webpage.

for me you re pardalis come from nosy boraha
 
gotta say, that pic does look very similar to my Masoala from cap est except its grey with a hint of blue and maroon bars, mine is just white with red bars. I guess clean line chameleons are wrong then, as is the rest of Europe.
 
your doesnt seem to the cham i saw to nosy bohara..your is grey and wite but often nosy bora have this pattern exceot when they are excited
you can see my nosy bohara with his color outdoor

Cap est is on the Masoala peninsula, yet Masoala is a different place. look at the map they have on the cleanline chameleons site. Close, but not the same. Also, looking at the masoalas there, yours doesnt look like those either. they have the cap est and masoalas separated, so they are 2 different locales.
Which do you have, masoala or cap est? It isnt a masoala.

Ok, he is a cap est, from masoala in madagascar. He is definately not a nosy Boraha, that is an island miles away from cap est although the colouration is similar, as can be said for ambanja and ankify or even Ankaramy and nosy Radama. They are too close in colouration for some to be able to clearly distinguish between the 2. So it seems then that my Cap Est is even rarer than i originally thought going by what clean line chameleons say:

"Cap Est Panther Chameleons are unlike any other locale. These are most closely related to Tamatave Panther Chameleons. They share the same reds but Cap Est Panther Chameleons a slightly darker burgundy red barring on a white background. The white background is similar to background colors on Ambato or Nosy Faly Panther Chameleons. This locale is extremely rare and only occasionally if found in shipment with Tamataves"

Are you talkin RARE like that infamous "Ampiskiana panther cham"?
 
He wont fire up!!! if he sees another male he runs away and goes a dark stressed colour. Same if i show him a female, only pics i can get of him semi fired is the ones i posted yesterday, i had just woken him and he went that crazy white, although i have seen him whiter and his reds go blood red but thats only once in a while. the pics dont really come out too well, they make him appear more orange.
