Just a question about when the males start to color up. I have noticed when my 5 month old is stressed he shows colors but for the most part he is a blue green. I have seen peoples 4 month olds that show a rainbow of colors already....is there a cetain age when you see what color there "norm" will be?

they reach there full colors between 12-18 months:D

of course some chams are faster than others, while some are late bloomers like mine:p

the trick is "patience":p

Nope. Not when they are younger, but you can expect his colors to be mature around 18-24 months. He may only ever be blue and green at rest (which is still beautiful!) and fire up with lots of color. Other chameleons have lots of color at rest but may not fire up with very different colors, and some are just super rainbows with super colorful genes.

I think the ones that are one or two colors at rest and get way more color (especially different colors) when they fire up are the most beautiful. That's why I like sambavas. They tend to be just plain old green with red/gray bars (or blue if their colors aren't mature yet) with maybe a teeny bit of red on the throat. Then they fire up and they can be totally different colors! Mine is green and grayish red and he turns completely yellow or orange as his back ground color, and his bars either turn solid black or deep red.

Pfft, I bet yours wasn't as late as mine. He was plain brown or gray with green flecks on his cheeks until he was about 7-8 months old.

thats because you got a sambava, right? i hear they are late bloomers:p

Yeah but he was even unusually late for a Sambava. I mean he had like no color at all. Not even a little. I had bought him as a girl at 5 months. He had such a small package and so little color that two (yes 2, dos, tuh-ooo) breeders thought he was a girl. He went through two breeders before he came to me still as a girl!

Here's some pics.

"Hey, BIG THINGS come in small packages:cool:"...LOL

And i forgot , you have Hyperion!!! he is amazing and very "petite" as you said

And thats hilarious about how young you got him:p...oh well, no matter how "small", a guy is still a guy:rolleyes::p

just get him a gf and he "ll show you what he's made of...

He's a gentleman. :) When I put him with his girlfriend he gently approached, mounted, never mated, got off and walked away. She wasn't receptive, but she wasn't getting upset either. They're both weirdos.

Damn....not to be rude, but is their a possibility of having homosexual chams!!!LOL...maybe he didnt like it, and the female was dissapointed:p

Ha, my male veiled tries to mate with Hyperion whenever he sees him. They don't get conjugal visits anymore ;) Hyperion actually hates when Pan is near him/trying to mate him.

I think it was peer pressure! All her lady Cham friends were doing it, so she decided to let him mount (but she really felt she wasn't ready for such a big step in their relationship) and he wanted to be a 'Mancham' to his buddies but he saw that she was uncomfortable. So he got off and they decided to take it slow and not see eachother again until she gets receptive. :D

WOAH!!

Too much CHAM-Drama!!!!

But hope for the best when they do decide to do it:p

Here is my ambilobe at about 4.5 months old, and you can see the difference between him relaxed and him angry at the camera:

And even now at 11 months old, he's STILL changing! I thought he was going to look like his dad, with red, blue and just a bit of yellow on his stomach. But boy were we wrong! He's started turning mostly yellow in only the last month or two, so I think he's going to keep changing for another few months. I don't think I'll consider him settled into his mature colors until he's almost 2 I think. Just so you get an idea of the variation:

So have patience! One day he'll shed and be a completely different animal, and every shed after that will get better and better.
