Male veiled digging in substate?

With the set up his got i'm not sure i can lower it, all lights are in a case ontop of mesh outside the terrarium, its an exo terra one. It is possible, altho he does sit at the top a fair bit, surely he'd stay lower down if he was too hot? :\

Yeah i know the basics of their colours thats why im alot happier with how he is now, was upsetting to see how he was when we got him, also his wee was yellow not white so believe he was dehydrated, hasnt been since so thats good. I think he's a happy enough chameleon just want whats best for him

He is looking a bit happier. Also looks like he has had a few nasty burns down his back at some point. Let me just check, do you have a UVB light on him? Which kind? Do you know his supplementation schedule that he was on? What is he on now? There is a link on the "how to ask for help" section that if you complete, will also help make sure you have everything you need. I keep a copy on the computer and fill it in and keep a record every time I need to ask questions.

Edit: You would think that he would stay down the bottom but a) chams are a bit thick sometimes, b) he might have better access to the UV light at the top and c) they like being high up as they feel safe. This is how they live in the wild. I really would try to get a dimmer. We bought a really cheap one, cut the wire to the light in two and just attached it to the middle. I think that considering that he is in a terrarium, you would (in my opinion) be better off spending a fiver on a dimmer switch so you can control his temps than on some meal worms for him. They can overheat so quickly, and when they go downhill it is fast and very hard to watch. Believe me.

They were'nt burns, the store we always goto get food and our dragon etc we've got quite friendly with the owners, and Eddie was originally one of thier chameleons babies, and apparently when he was younger he had a fungal infection along his back, thats why its a bit bumpy looking. He helped look after him at that time and stayed in contact with his previous owners as they were regulars at the shop, thats how they know.
Got a 10% exo terra UVB and 2% exo terra daylight strip. not sure what his supplement schedule was before we got him, and we give him Nutrobal (sp?) on his locusts every two days and thanks

I have not seen any pictures of what a fungal infection can do, but I have seen pictures of what a burn can do and to me, who is by no means an expert, it looks like burns. Let's be honest, would you go back to the store and admit that the animal you bought there was injured because of something you did? Not many would. And stores are well known for giving the wrong info out. Most of us here came looking for help as we got the wrong advice (the store sold him with substrate in the cage for starters). I use nutrobal, but at every other feeding. I use plain calcium with the other feeds. You don't want to give him too much in the way of vitamins.

How often are you feeding him? How much is he eating?

I do want to get a dimmer, they've just seen a bit pricey for us atm, but i'll have another look around and get one ASAP :)

Eddie came from the same place as Lily. They are really good wth their advice. They are always really helpful, no matter how many questions you aks them! (Lord knows - they put up with me and my notepad of q's before I got Lily). They are an 'Exotics' shop and only sell reptiles and inverts plus everything you could possibly need for your exotic pet!

He only eats about 3, maybe 4 extra large locusts a day. and then the wax worms now and again as a treat when we try and handle him etc. And not arguing, because i did come here for advise etc, but this store has owned theyre own reptiles, inc chams for years, they started their business because they had too many at home infact lol, they are very good. and they treated him themselves with an anti fungal spray or cream, cant remember which exactly, and they said all this before we even got him, because he said we were picking him up from so n' so and they said is his name Eddie because they recognised the owners names, and of course it is, and they said he was one of they're babies and about his back when he was younger so we didnt worry about him when we saw it, to warn us kinda thing. I think i trust them with that.

Yes, but my point was that they were told that by the previous owners, who could have easily lied rather than admit the cham was injured by their mistake. And he was still sold with substrate in the tank. Draig came from an exotics specialist remember, and look at all that happened with that. I do understand that some shops know more than others, but I still feel we should question everything we are told rather than just take it as gospel.

We weren't told by the previous owners, we were informed by the shop owners who treated him. and he wasn't necessarily sold with the substrate, they can advise, they cant stop people buying if its unknown, the owners could have got that any when.

The shop that my first cham came from was a specialist, and yet I was still sold a female when they said it was a male, with all the wrong set up (the people serving me owned chams) and a really sick cham that died 6 weeks later of MBD and kidney failure, which they described as "unfortunate". And it was my understanding that when Tiff got Lily from that shop, she was one of Marcus Langford's chams, so they aren't selling only their chams. I am not saying that they are a bad shop (Tiff has very good things to say about them) I am just saying that to have an informed opinion, you need to listen to others, and not just take a shops advice as gospel.

I don't or i wouldnt be here, but i do trust them about eddies previous condition

Also, with his set up being how it is, and always having had the same one, i dont think he could burn his back, its higher up than he can get and over mesh

Hey, not 100% sure really, day before yesterday i was out most of the day and came home and there was some disturbance in the same place but not as much as previously, and since i posted about him doing it, i have been home every day really as i'm not working so i dont know if he's stopped or just not doing it because there's someone around, because he only done it before when everyone was out. Seen him walking down to the same spot a couple of times, but then seen me and started going back up the other way so lol

have you been able to lower his temps slightly?

Hey, I cant really lower the temperature easily because f the set up, but have been leaving his doors open a lot which seems to be helping, its been more around 30 degrees, noticed a new thing yesterday though, usually he likes to sit at the top to bask, but yesterday I was watching him and he started to try and get up on the roof, whether he was trying to push it up or attempt to climb on it i'm not sure, but never seen that before lol

Inside the cage? Is it anywhere near the lights?

yeah, right below them :\ It's one of these exo terra terrariums, as i've said before hoping to change to bigger and better when I can afford it but its what he came with so, the roofs mesh, then the lights are in a hood/case which sits on top of that
it's one of these (if the pic works) doesnt show the lights on top of it though as it comes seperate...
