Machakos Hill Jackson’s-Trioceros jacksonii jacksonii

I been thinking of them for sometime.

I have steered away from keeping montane species. Until I got myself Trioceros hoehnelii. I have made success of keeping one since acquiring one at 3 months of age. Now he much bigger but still need to grow to his max potential size. Despite my worries of living in a hot climate.

I’m NOT definite of going to acquire J. Jacksonii yet. Definitely not soon either.
Space for me doesn’t yielded keep quantities to large chameleon species.
I wondered if I could do something like space of 18x18x36 would be okay? 24x24x36? Or I would have to aim min enclosure of 36x18x36?

I would say that you'd need 24" x 24" x 48".

Although Mr. Jack is a xantholophus (one of the bigger Jacksons), he uses literally every inch of his space. I started him off in a 18x18x36 when he was 6/7 months... it is was even too small to begin with. Before I get another Cham, I'll have to find a bigger place to keep them; and Mr. Jack will be getting a bigger cage too, before I get another one too. I try to supplement with free ranging, but the little guy just needs a bigger cage, still.

I do think that the Machakos would be better suited for warmer weather, but I 100% had to buy an A/C. Jack pants, like a dog, whenever the room gets to 23c (73.4). (In Canada land... Where only the insane pay to be cold )

That said, I keep Littlefoot (female veiled) and him in the exact same environment.

I think there's still a lot to learn about how they adapt. For example, the wild specimens in Hawaii and Miami. These are chams that have evolved to live in different conditions.
