Lost my Cham!

Okay, so I fed my new baby veiled last night (got him two days ago) and accidentally left the cage unlocked. When I came in this morning to turn his lights on, the cage was partially open and little Zeke was nowhere to be found. I'm really freaking out, because a. he was an adorable little guy and b. he's supposed to breed my female once he's old enough. I have no idea where to look for him and I'm really freaking out here. Please help??

Was he in a room with the door closed or would he have access to a larger area? I agree that he'll be looking to climb anything and everything, but I've also seen younger chameleons dig into substrate or corners of cages when they fall or are startled. If you have no cats and your furnace/air conditioning vents are covered, he should turn up. WATCH EVERY STEP YOU TAKE WHILE DOING THIS! Start in one corner of the room and search it up and down until your sure he's not there. If there's furniture in the room search every inch of it and move it to the corner you just searched one piece at a time, watching under your feet as you move. Remember to check the underside of tables and couches/chairs. There's a ton hiding space on the underside of a couch. Continue this method until room/house is fully search. If this doesn't work set up a climbing plant with a low hanging basking bulb over it and hopefully he'll be drawn to the warmth. Good luck and I hope you find him!

Also look for warm and sun. The chams at work escape once in a while, and we will often find them by warm lights, high up.

You can also try leaving an open-topped bucket of crickets out, and watching to see if he will come down to eat them. just make sure the crickets can't escape!

Another trick is to run a burbling waterfall- it might not be a good idea to give them to chams in their cages, but I've had escaped chams RUN to the sound of bubbling water, especially if they have been gone for more then 6-12 hours.

All what's been said and if you have cats or dogs lock them up until you find him! We have had many chameleon over the years killed by both dogs and cats!

Well hes not going to be on the floor or under something. And he will be bright colored and in full view when its time for bed. Ive never had one "hide". So he will be on the end of a "branch, but you have to find which branch. Ive found my stuck in boxes they couldnt navigate, and behind the toilet on cold water in.

My chewie is an escape artist and manages to escape his cage at least 3 times a day and I can figure out how he's doing it . So i put a tree next to his cage and that's where he goes . I put him back in his cage and next time I look he's on the tree again. I would put a tree or some plants out for him because he will probably end up in there

Check behind your computer table/desk, maybe he's hiding at the back of the desk or a computer. The cables and the heat from the computer will likely attract your chameleon.
I lost her too,but I found mine behind my computer.

I have found him! Unfortunately, I found him in a sickly state. My jack russell got to him first and mortally wounded him. Took him to the vet, she gave him some shots and gave him a 30% chance of survival. It's been 2 days since I found him and the little guy is going strong! He ate three crickets last night (we had to help him of course) and he was drinking on his own this morning. However the vet said he will never be able to breed, which of course sucks, but we love our little guy just the same. He will likely be crippled the rest of his life. My cat was actually the one who found him, he was clinging to the top of my guitar case and my cat, who's deathly afraid of both my chameleons, began to throw a fit, and so I found him. I have no idea how I even looked past the little guy!

That sucks sorry to hear that. I don't think I'd have a chameleon if I had dogs and cats in the house also. There is always the possibility of something like this happening.
