lip problems...

Yesterday I noticed my jackson's lower lip had swelled up a bit in the corner. Today it's gotten worse, now he has some sort of blister... From what I've researched on mouth rot, it doesn't look like that's what he has. Does anybody know of any other possible mouth infection or what do you guys think from the picture? I called the reptile vet around here today and he wasn't in today...

Ew that doesn't look good. It's probably an infection of some sort. I'd try to look for another vet with chameleon expirience.

Lip Problems

Mouth rot can often cause the kind of swelling that's present in your chameleon. Sometimes bleeding of the gums and a cheesy appearance to the inside of the mouth on the gums as well. You can clean it up with a Q-tip and peroxide. However, I would only do this once as peroxide will damage the tissue with repeated use. Your chameleon is very sick and will most likely need antibiotics most vets should be able to treat this problem (of course one who specializes in reptiles would be preferable). I would call around and see if any one is available to examine him. Also, if there is a zoo in your area they may have someone available who would be able to look at your chameleon. When I first got into reptiles the zoo in my area was very helpful and more than willing to help me out.

That looks like some sort of infection. I'd take him to a qualified vet immediately.

It looks like it might be an infection of the temporal gland. This is quite common in Jackson's chameleons.

I think you are right about it being a temporal infection... I'm going to the vet tomorrow to have him checked out. Thanks for all the helpful replies.
