AGREED! last time i had this debate everyone was pro liger.
i realize ligers have gigantsim (larger than both parent species) but as with most big cats they rely on crushing the wind pipe or covering the muzzle. essentially suffocating their prey. im not saying constant clawing and biting couldnt prove fatal but i think it would take an excessive amount of time to to accomplish such a task.
i think a bear would just brutally pummel causing broken bones and internal bleeding. one well placed blow, i think, could easily crush a ligers skull, though unlikely considering feline agility.
the only chance in my mind that a liger may have is a stealth attack and rather than attacking the throat going for the spine. there is just far too much meat on their necks to get a good suffocating clamp on a struggling bear. but if by happenstance the liger could get a clamp on the spine at the base of the skull and sever it quickly is the only chane i see for the liger.
we can even change this into a siberian tiger vs american grizzly or kodiak. and i still think the bear would win. even though tigers have been know to take out brown bears.
