Leopard Gecko!

Hey everyone! Well today i got a new little pet. Im sure you know what it is by the title of the thread. But ya. My first leopard gecko. Im pretty sure he is a carrot tail and im not quite sure if its a male or female so any help is much appreciated.

He has eaten some crickets and drank some water. He is just roaming around his cage, licking his lips, and just checking everything out. Let me know what you think.

OOOO nice one :D I have 2 geckoes (SHCT) and the third is on her way now :) She seems to be a female for me, but cant really see.. need to see the femoral pores, just like in the link above!
I use sand too, and i dont have any problems with it. Some people says that the tiny sand crystals good fo thei digestive system. Newer red about it but the poo is normal all times, they eat, drink, breed, lay eggs and hatches in the sand :) And the female is tamed, so we watching NatGeo together :p, or the "Life with cold blood - dragons of the dry, narrated by David Attenborough".

good luck with her/(him)! Are you planning to get a boyfriend/girlfriend too? :)

Nice gecko. Ditch the sand. Papertowel or newspaper works best. Sexing is easy with leos. Males will have very noticeable pores above the vent. Also I think the morph you have is a "Normal". Im no expert on these geckos though. Goodluck with it!

I've kept leos for over 17 years...I keep them on a sand substrate once they get to be about 6 months old and have never had a problem with it. I lost one of mine a couple of weeks ago. She was part of a trio of them that I got in 1993 as subadults....so she was over 17 years old. Her mate and the other female are still carrying on.

Your gecko looks female but its hard to be sure from the angle of the pictures.

S/he looks lovely Stefan! Glad it's not just me that goes backwards in the reptile world! We've both kept chameleons before getting into easier to keep geckos!:D

Thanks everyone!

I changed her/his substrate and he is on newspaper now. He made a poop and his urate and poop look great!

A couple questions though..
Why do they lick their mouth all the time?

Why do they bobble their head a lot?

What do you mean by bobbling their heads?? Are they being given supplements the same way that you give them to the chameleons??

They cleaning their mouth, eyes with their tongue! :) As i saw the had blobbing is normal behaviour, especially for the males, kinda territorial behaviour, and the use it when courting. When they courting, the used to shake their tails too.
