Laying substrate, peat moss?

Hey y'all,
Just wondering if anyone could share some wisdom on whether or not a 50/50 mix of sphagnum peat moss and play sand would be okay for a laying substrate? I can't find soil without vermiculite or perlite anywhere, but I did find a giant bag of peat moss for only $6. I tried just using the sand the first time she was ready to lay since I already had it on hand, but HQ didn't want anything to do with it, so I had to use soil that had perlite in it, which made it very difficult locating eggs!

Ive used pure organic top soil, and both my girls did just fine using it.

Where do you get pure organic top soil from? And does it have vermiculite or perlite in it?
