Kinyongia Boehmei - Breeding Project Log

Welp, project is officially on hold. The male was doing…. seemingly well until about the time the female died. He went down hill quickly and died last Friday….

I got a CB female shipped in that I’ve had since that same Friday. She’s only 3 grams so lots of growing to do.

I’ll be raising her up until she’s large enough to breed. At that point, I’ll get another male to breed her with. So the project is on hold for probably 6 months id imagine. This female is a year old right now but seemingly on the small end. But Wowsa is she a looker!!

I’m sorry to hear you lost your pair. I hope your new female does well

I just saw a male at a local shop. Labeled as a Jackson’s 😬
Their current housing isn’t great, but looked pretty alert and healthy. Definitely a wild caught adult. Their other Chams did not look great.
I would really like to get him, but I’m not sure I’m quite ready to put an enclosure together quickly right now

Well your captive bred female Kinyongia boehmei is alive and well. I am glad she is doing well. KCK!!

Heavy about your wild caught pair dying. My Condolences.

Best Regards

Sorry to hear that. I had the same exact issue, the male died a month or so after the female. Both were imports and both quite small - not babies but underweight and maybe juvenile. I was heart broken to miss what may have been my only shot at grandbabies. My last remaining CH baby is now 4.5!

I wish you luck in the search for a male.

The CB female is doing quite well. She was only 4 grams when she arrived, and as of a week or so ago she’s up to 7. So she’s now 2 grams larger than the WC female I had. Trying to decide what to do from here. We had been discussing possibly moving back to Utah so I put an instant hold on getting a male and breeding. But, it’s looking like we will stay put in Idaho. So now the question is… continue and get a male to acclimate and then breed, keeping looking for a unicorn CB male, or idk 🤷

She eats like crazy but she is SO SHY! The second she sees you, she’s turning away and running off or hiding behind something. Only chance of observation is sitting in the office for awhile and letting her settle down and not realize you’re still in there. The other two were not nearly as shy, so I think it’s more of this particular individual, but not positive.

Great to hear an update from your Kinyongia breeding program! Glad your female Kinyongia boehmei is doing well.

Keep everyone on the Chameleon Forums updated about your Kinyongia.

Best Regards

Will do! Been a busy summer, and not much to share. Got a little bummed when I lost them both which has kept me a bit hesitant. But been talking to some friends in the hobby and I think I’m ready to grab a male , do some fecal tests and hopefully get a pairing. Thanks for all the support, Jeremy!

No worries. I was just talking on the Chameleon Forums about Kinyongia breeding programs. I am glad you chimed in again and really hope your program kicks off well.

There is a couple Reptile Conventions happening locally meaning I may have some chameleon breeding happening in the not to distant future.

Best Regards

Well that sounds exciting and a big cliff hanger!! Looking forward to hearing!

Update. Great news! We had a successful pairing today. The make has been interested everytime trying, but she has not. She never got aggressive, but would certainly run away from him. She would get some really dark greens striping when she was not interested.

This morning, I noticed she has kind of that similar pattern, but was alone in her own enclosure. When I tried pairing her up, she had some nice blues and purples that usually don’t show through very much. She stayed that / a nice light green color when introducing her to his cage today. Within 5 minutes they were paired up! Sorry, I couldn’t get very good pictures of the process.

Bravo! The pictures looks great to me. They are doing the dance and look quite pleased with themselves! You have work so long and tried everything. The boys are always ready, but the girls have the inner knowledge when things will be right. She said gave the thumbs up so the pairing will end up successful. Now the waiting begins for you ugh. All my fingers and toes are crossed for an Excellent Outcome.

Update.

Pairing started last Sunday, and I’ve left them together ever since. I was anticipating 2-4 days, but we’re on day 8 now and still pairing! They sleep relatively close together, feed and bask together as well. It’s been a cool experience to watch.

Pairing has been taking place every morning within the first hour of lights on, and then nothing else till the next morning. Her coloring has changed in the way of she has more light blues in her face and hidden in her body. This is a coloration I had not seen until last Sunday when I went to pair them. I’ll have to watch this moving forward to see if it’s just a receptive coloration.

I have to leave to Colorado for a business trip this afternoon, so I have separated them just a few moments ago.

She was between 7 and 8 and grams last Sunday, but was 8 grams this morning when I moved her so that will be the weight I monitor from here untill eggs are laid.
